Can't believe I got sucked into a few people attention whoring yesterday. Got so many xtra things done last month with a 30 day vacation. It seems you can not discuss, history economic, politics, or just making some GD money without someone needing to make it about them. Back to reading Jim Willie....think I'm gonna sign up for Chris Lairds newsletter

I think we should give the guy a break. He has been surfing on Corexit waves and eating fish from the Gulf.

The thread you are mentioning was hilarious. The crescendo (for me) was getting called out among the zionists!

Thanks for the smite, but that isn't bringing you to the high road. Consider enrolling in charm school after you complete obedience school.

Thats funny libber. Are you going to deny that you weren't part of the 50 smites I got whilst banned for 30 days? Its a lot of work to go back and find old threads and smite people......do they pay you enough? I'm going to lock the topic in about an hour as their are more important topics to discuss. SIlver is pushong $20. Palladium broke $500 again and is steamrolling. Wheat and soybeans are up. Housing is down. The democrats are going to get killed in November.

WOW! Getting very close to $20. I like the price action. Finally the DOG appears to be on it's way to breaking $20 and will be on it's way to $23 at the end of this year. I am loving this. ;D

Since you're a carpenter Kenny if i'm tearing 7 feet out of a 2x4 wall, do I out a 4x4 header in or a 4x6?

Use 1x1's and load the top with cinder blocks. Do side straddle hops underneath and see if it holds. If it fails your head should be hard enough to take the blow without any further damage.

Philo; It depends on if it is a Load bearing wall or not.
Is it an Interior wall? Do you know if it supporting any roof/ceiling Trusses?
I think I would go with the 4x6. couldn't hurt

BTW I am a Steel stud Carpenter I haven't built many wood buildings...I did build my house, I had some expert help framing that.

It is load bearing so I will use 4x4 posts and a 4x6 beam @ 7'

Hey Ken we could have used ya then, about 10 years ago, My house is 60x40 clearspan red iron, so we just framed in, any way we liked, no load bearing walls, I'll have to send you some pic's.

That is a Great way to Go Zap.
I wish I could have done that. Instead of wood.

6 years ago when I was planning, steel went WAY way up in price and I couldn't afford to go that route. Hopefully next time though.

Yeah, Please, send pics :)

Don't mean to put in 2cents where it's not wanted, but 6'' header over 7' of l/b wall seems a little light. All of the code here uses 2 ply 2x10 as window/door headers on l/b walls. As far as the trimmer stud (post), I don't think a 4x4 is required, a simple 2x4 trimmer on each side should be sufficient to support the header. Not gospel....just m2c's.

2 of them scabbed (laminated together). Set the outter surface flush with the studs and then face nail a couple of squares of osb sheeting to the inner surface......that'll bring you flush with the inner surface of the studs and give you a nailer for your finishing covering. Confused yet??!?
