The pastor of a small US church who wanted to burn copies of the Koran has cancelled his protest.

Terry Jones said he was calling off the Florida event after the group behind a planned mosque close to Ground Zero in New York agreed to relocate it.

Mr Jones had said the burning would be a stand against terrorism, but his plan was internationally condemned.

President Barack Obama had warned Mr Jones the event would be "a recruitment bonanza" for al-Qaeda.

What an awful bargain if this holds up.

Jones only proposed to stop the Quran-burning event if the imam of the NY mosque moved the establishment?

This may only encourage other nutjobs to threaten to incite anger if their demands aren't met.

Yep knuckle under for one and the flood gates open.

Kinda cool they will move the New York mosque.

And sorry to say that if that idiot in Florida does not burn the quran that lives may be saved
world wide. What a waste :sarc:

Trump offered to buy the building at 25% over what they paid.

This is getting interesting.

So much for breaking news. The mosque is not moving??

This is sort of like watching a tennis match and the crowds faces all move with the
ball, from one side of the court to the other..

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The pastor planning to burn Qurans on the Sept. 11 anniversary said Thursday that he had called off the event after being given assurances that the Muslim group seeking to build an Islamic center near the World Trade Center site would move the project.

But sources close to the imam behind the New York mosque denied any deal had been struck.

And Sharif Al-Gamal, owner of the building where the mosque and cultural center would be housed, told NBC News that there had been no discussions with Jones.

The Rev. Terry Jones insisted, however, that he had the imam's "word that he will move the mosque to a different location."

..Jones also said he would travel to New York on Saturday to meet with officials of the mosque project.

President Barack Obama earlier implored Jones to call off his Quran-burning "stunt," saying it would jeopardize U.S. troops abroad.

He didn't seem like someone who would back down.

Was he just out for attention?

Or was he either threatened (Holder phoned him) or given a better deal? ???

I personally thought the burning was pointless, but something is fishy with this whole story, especially with the Imam saying there was no deal.

Also the fact that they don't mention his child porn charges in August, now NBC pulled the story

Koran burning may be on again

The pastor of a tiny Florida church has threatened to rethink his decision to abandon plans for a weekend Koran-burning event.

Hours after calling off the much-criticised ceremony to mark the anniversary of the September 11 attacks, Pastor Terry Jones backtracked and said it had merely been suspended.

"Right now we are just putting a temporary hold upon our planned event," he said.

The Dove World Outreach Centre pastor had earlier said his change of heart over the event was in exchange for a deal to relocate a controversial mosque project near Ground Zero in New York.

But the alleged deal was thrown into confusion when the imam leading the project for the Islamic cultural centre in New York, Feisal Abdul Rauf, quickly denied any such agreement.

Pastor Jones claimed to have won assurances from an Orlando imam acting as a go-between, Mohammed Musri, that Iman Rauf was willing to do a deal and would meet him in New York on Saturday to discuss it.

"We put a suspension on it because right now we are actually really disappointed and very shocked because if this turns out to be true, he [Imam Musri] very clearly lied to us," Pastor Jones said later after Imam Rauf's denial.

"We would be forced to rethink our decision, because we cancelled it based upon his word.

"I understand he [Imam Musri] is now going around saying that he did not say that."

In this case, Jones should just proceed with the Quran burnings so that the M$M can focus its attention on some other nonsense.

Lots of Muslims will be infuriated but maybe their anger will subside after a few weeks.

Jones was "visited" at least three times by FBI agents, the latest right before he backed down. They probably told him something "unfortunate" would happen to someone he cares about.

That was a fraudulent HIT PIECE on Jones.

Jones was NOT arrested, let alone peddling or possessing Kosher or Halal kiddie porn.

I can imagine who put the story out.

USA Today: Apr 22, 2011 Quran-burning pastor accidentally fires gun on eve of Mich. anti-Muslim rally (http://content.usatoday.com/communities/ondeadline/post/2011/04/quran-burning-pastor-accidentally-fires-gun-on-eve-of-mich-anti-muslim-rally/1)

Terry Jones, the Quran-burning pastor from Florida who is in Michigan to try to mount an anti-Muslim rally this evening, accidentally fired his .40-caliber handgun while leaving a TV studio parking lot Thursday night, the Detroit Free Press reports, quoting police.

The 59-year-old pastor of the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Fla., is in court today to press his plans to rally today in front of the Islamic Center of America, in Dearborn, a heavily Muslim city.

Dearborn police insist that he pay security costs estimated at $46,000, the newspaper reports.

The shooting incident occurred in Southfield as Jones was getting in the passenger side of his car. The Taurus handgun went off, sending a bullet into the floorboard, Southfield Police Lt. Nick Loussia said today, according to the Free Press.

"Officers heard a gunshot, approached the vehicle, asked Mr. Jones if he was OK," Loussia said. "He was, and they also observed he had a gun in his hand."

Officers took the weapon, and also found another handgun near the driver, a man from Florida traveling with Jones. Both men were carrying valid Florida concealed-weapon licenses, which are recognized in Michigan, Loussia said. The men were allowed to leave without further action.

Jones told reporters today outside the Dearborn courthouse that the firing was "an accident."
