Fruit of the Spirit - Visible Growth in Jesus Christ
"Fruit of the Spirit" is a biblical term that sums up the nine visible attributes of a true Christian life.
Using the King James Version of Galatians 5:22-23, these attributes are: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance.
We learn from scripture that these are not individual "fruits" from which we pick and choose. Rather, the fruit of the Spirit is one ninefold "fruit" that characterizes all who truly walk in the Holy Spirit. Collectively, these are the fruits that all Christians should be producing in their new lives with Jesus Christ.
Fruit of the Spirit - The Nine Biblical Attributes
The fruit of the Spirit is a physical manifestation of a Christian's transformed life. In order to mature as believers, we should study and understand the attributes of the ninefold fruit:
Love - "And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him" (1 John 4:16). Through Jesus Christ, our greatest goal is to do all things in love. "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails" (1 Corinthians 13:4-8).
Joy - "The joy of the Lord is your strength" (Nehemiah 8:10). "Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God" (Hebrews 12:2).
Peace - "Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ" (Romans 5:1). "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit" (Romans 15:13).
Longsuffering (patience) -- We are "strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness" (Colossians 1:11). "With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love" (Ephesians 4:2).
Gentleness (kindness) -- We should live "in purity, understanding, patience and kindness; in the Holy Spirit and in sincere love; in truthful speech and in the power of God; with weapons of righteousness in the right hand and in the left" (2 Corinthians 6:6-7).
Goodness - "Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power" (2 Thessalonians 1:11). "For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth" (Ephesians 5:9).
Faith (faithfulness) - "O Lord, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth" (Isaiah 25:1). "I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith" (Ephesians 3:16-17).
Meekness - "Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted" (Galatians 6:1). "With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love" (Ephesians 4:2).
Temperance (self-control) - "But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love" (2 Peter 1:5-7).

Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
RADICALLY different. And not just because of a change of meaning of the words from Biblical English to modern English.
Ken, this is an example of why you are so often in error. You're sourcing your "Christian" theology from the wrong sources and "experts."

The KJV is partially the reason why many DO misinterpret the Bible, The dead language (Old English) its written in is confusing for alot of people. I wish someone,would DIRECTLY translate,without taking liberties,the KJV.I have a freind who is very fluent in contemporary Spanish,(He is from Barcelona) He bought a antique Book written in Old Castillian Spanish, he could barely grasp it.My Grandfather's Bible is translated from Greek into Serbian(has both languages on each verse) they almost always totally conflict.

I posted a picture of a Negro CRIMINAL hanging on a tree in response to a Negro CRIMINAL threatening violence for burning the Quran.
Which of those traits did Christ show in the Temple towards the moneychangers, Ken? God knows I have plenty of patience dealing with the sheer stupidity around here and in society in general. New Age garbage about "there's good in everyone" - even from Christians!
Please keep things in context. We are not supposed to be "gentle" when confronting Evil.

The KJV is definitely not perfect, but it's more perfect than the "translations" made since World War II that are sanitized of "anti-Semitic" and "homophobic" and other "offensive" meanings and truths.

You are misleading folks. Implying that these later translations say some thing different than the KJV.

The main reason people misinterpret the bible is that they don't read it. They let someone else tell them what it says and then they misremember what they were told. Nobody who reads the KJV has any trouble understanding it. Except of course those who are determined not to understand it in any case.

Ken, I appreciate this post because part of me is an idealist, much like you are I believe.
My problem, however, with religion roots down to this very nature, it's idealism first and foremost, religion second.
Say I follow all these virtues, as God would have wanted. It's not practical however, in our world, because if you show any sign of weakness, you open a floodgate for it to come your way. It's a recipe for being a victim in life. I have a hard time thinking God put us all here to be victims.
I can treat folks well, until they disrespect me. My humility has no rewards, but if challenged, it is something that I believe is worth fighting for.
Ken the best I can do, is treat folks well and decent, as I would want to be treated. Until they treat me unfairly. I think that is all that we can ask of any man.

Jesus asked us to be meek, not weak. Nobody ever asked us to be nice. Paul said we should love one another, but nobody reads the bible so they have no idea what that means. People need to read their bibles and stop asking other people to tell them what it says.

Modern day translation: Let a man slap your cheek, let him kick you in the balls, and take your wallet while your wive/girlfriend losses respect for you for doing nothing.
Matthew 5:40 "And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well"
Modern day translation: If a man wants to go into your home and try and seduce your wife, let him use your bedroom while offering him a cold beer when he's done.

You are right Ken, my apologies to anyone I may have offended with that post. I think my own words have shown me that I may be jaded, and need to take a proactive step to reconnect with my religion and God.
I don't even own a bible right now. I do, but it's buried in a box in storage somewhere.
I will go and get another today, and start reading it again. Like both you and Saul recommend. Any particular version you recommend to start, Ken?

That website is a big help. I also noticed you had another thread talking about the different versions here, perhaps my question would have been better in that thread..oh well.
