i thought some of the members might find this interesting, given that a lot are interested in both guns and silver.
$2000 for a 99 piece silver set (knives forks spoons etc.)

each piece has "NRA" engraved on it. seller claims it was a gift at some NRA tournament. of course, it could just be someone's initials.

The custom of engraving, is the last name initial goes in the middle. So this flatwear set original owner's initials were N.A.R.
Though, of course, it could have been engraved to read l-r NRA.

yeah.
seems like a shame to melt functional silverware down.
if i had the money i'd buy as much as possible (at spot of course) and just save it.
people still like eating off of silver silver-ware. Neiman-Marcus & expensive department stores will keep on selling it, even when silver is $50 an ounce.

Unless those are really initials, there is a good chance that set may have been
a prize at a womans nra competition. At my local coin shop the owner will send
sets out as melt if the pattern is common. They will keep rare or hard to get
sets. They buy at about 1.00 less than spot by weight.

I'd say that is pretty obviously the NRA's style and font.....
I'd love to get a full set of silverware like that around spot....

Yes!
I posted before going to the link but YES they did as prizes.
Also over all their can not be that many sets out their compared to all of
the other sterling silver sets. May be several thousand or less compared
to millions that most people have.

the guy started out listing it at $19,995.
i think with that many pieces it would have around $1000 worth of silver - 100 pieces, 50 ounces.

At $19.88 spot the set is worth $1,476.09 but only if every piece is stamped STERLING on the back. That would include shipping, if any. If it's not stamped STERLING it's not worth anything.

That logo is consistent with an older NRA logo still occasionally used:
