Let's say we have the means to construct huge mountains of Qurans, Bibles, Torahs etc... as well as mountains of the flags that each of us despise, either rightly or wrongly and while we're at it why not include the constitutions and laws from each religion/country that doesn't sit well with any of us.

Does burning, banning change anything in reality? I don't think so. Because you can't destroy an idea or a compendium of idea's in some theatrical act of material destruction and in some way it almost seems to backfire on the messenger and the basic tenets always survive, no matter what and they will continue until they become irrelevant.

Anyone can destroy my religious text, my flag, my constitution but my quest for freedom cannot be destroyed and why people put so much creedance into these acts are puzzling to me.

you're not going to change their relgious ideas mindset by burning religious books
you may however, just reinforce the " us against them " mentality
especially if the burning is done by another religious group

Yea, it looks pretty pathetic and stupid on the person(s) doing any burning of a flag/book etc. especially when they're so easily duplicated.

What gets me also is that people out of rage that's already present go and use that event to commit an act of violence. Unbridled passion will almost always lead to more than one getting "burned"........the offender and offended.

"What man builds man can destroy but what you carry in your heart will be with you till you die"... Ponce

Is like with Jesus Cristo, the Jews are trying to kill him once again by erazing his name from the memory of man but as long as one person knows his name he will live, even if it is from a Jew himself.

A good example of the above is Herr Hitler.......if it wasn't for the Jews his name would had been placed in the back of the room with those of Yamamoto, Uncle Joe, Mussolini and so on.........but thanks to the Jews the name of Herr Hitler will live just about for ever up front, where he belongs.

On the other hand, the world suffered a loss with the Spanish burning of Mayan codices. While a few famous examples survive, many are deemed lost or maybe as of now yet 'undiscovered'. Humanity has lost some precious knowledge because of intentional destruction....

Thanks Telum and you are right, only three have been found and I have a funny feeling that many more are hiding away from the white man.

Its to infuriate one doesnt like, thats it. Most Christians would not riot over burned Bibles as the WORD contained in them is the value. Muslims on the other hand, are more material associative. A Koran to most of them is the ACTUAL word of God to Muhammad, so they get a bit more riled up.Muslims destroy Buddhist monasteries to destroy the religion, not realizing that Buddhists hold very little value for the building.

I think your right Ponce, especially with the newly discovered "pyramid" in "Guate."

I tend to take this tact as well. I like to think people around here are sophisticated enough to appreciate world heritage and its significance, despite who made it. Having said that, I have little patience for useful idiots and their manipulators. The original question was would burning a stack of holy books change reality? Answer: only for the ones that believe it does.

Rituals go back to the earliest days of mankind.

Rituals are important because they reach in and link up with the soul.

My main purpose in burning a Quran is to enrage the "religion of peace," to demonstrate beyond a shadow of a doubt that Islam is actually a religion of mass murder, and to prove that their threats do not faze me.

The Quran is to the Mayan Codices as Hustler is to Scientific American.

Civilization loses nothing in the former, but a great deal in the latter.

The answer to the question is simple. If you built a fire in a barrel in a public place, and tossed the Talmud into it, the Jews would say nothing at the time, but damn you later and try and ruin your life. if you threw a Bible in, People would gasp and murmor things. If you tossed a Koran in, they would riot worldwide.

Well that is according to TPTB broadcasting their doctored version of things over the History Channel.

I think they have most if not all the Mayan codices and are best trying to figure out how to keep their position of ruling over the slaves intact after the shift occurs.

I also believe they are sitting on most of the information contained in the great library of Alexandria which was spirited out just before being torched.
