.US woman arrested over dry lawn
A 70-year-old US woman has been left bruised and bloody after an unexpected clash with police who came to caution her for not watering her lawn.

Trouble flared when Utah pensioner Betty Perry, 70, refused to give her name after being upbraided because her garden breached local regulations.

She says the officer hit her with handcuffs, cutting her nose, although police insist she slipped and fell.

Ms Perry said she was "distraught" after the incident.

“ He's just trying to cover his tracks, as far as I'm concerned ”
Betty Perry

She denied accusations she was resisting arrest, maintaining that she only turned to go inside to call her son to fix the confusing dispute.

"I tried to sit down and get away from him [the police officer]," she told Utah newspaper the Daily Herald.

"I don't know what he's doing. I said: 'What are you doing?' And he hit me with those handcuffs in my face," she said.

"He's just trying to cover his tracks, as far as I'm concerned."

Set free

The officer had judged that Ms Perry's "sadly neglected and dying landscape" breached an Orem city guideline and was attempting to issue a formal caution when the 70-year-old was injured.

She was treated in a local hospital for the cut to her nose and for other bruises before being taken to jail.

But she was let go when police realised there were "other ways" of finding out her identity without jailing her, a police spokesman said

The arresting officer has not been named but has been placed on administrative leave, he added.

And this other guy was washing his Mercedes from a water bucket, the cops stopped to question him......the guy was using Avian water bottles.

The REAL problem is that there are LAWS against NOT watering your lawn!

I don't see how anyone can justify this bullshit. WHo the hell are the cops to arrest ANYONE for not watering their law?

Nah...just tired of GSUS supporting this 70 year-old woman's "RIGHT" to live like stupid lazy goyim white trash when millions of decent grandmothers teach grand kids about gardening every day in our neighborhoods. GSUS in another thread was supporting some single mother's "RIGHT" to park a junker vehicle in her rental driveway. You people think being a white trash slob is your constitutional Right living in your trailer park...lol.

Last time I checked rights were not supposed to be conditional.

"Hell, freedom is fine as long as your freedom is controlled by me."

That is apparently the new mantra.

Are Neocons trying to start a "grass roots" movement or something around here? :lol

Of course the definition of "junker" is any vehicle on which you have not paid registration fees to the government. Nice try you statist.

Perhaps she thought she was wrong in her response to the police officers?

While I do not agree with what happened to this lady, the proper response would have been to just take the ticket and go to Court to fight it out.
All she'd have had to do was claim hardship to the Judge and it would have likely been dismissed.

The neighbors didn't take action. They called the government. It's bad enough when the gov is growing itself saying "you need us", but people not being able to deal with stuff like this on their own creates more government.

You're living in an illusion. All those manicured lawns and fresh paint. It'll all rot and the grass and weeds will take over.

*we're heading back to little house on the prairie. No paint, no lawnmowers, no picket fences. Can you dig it! Shattered illusions in 3, 2, 1,.... :P

In Book's defense, I think he yearns deeply for the era of the 1950s/1960s, when America was still a land with wholesome people with wholesome values. Green lawns were ubiquitous.

Don't consider him "evil" for it - my parents are much the same way. They still look fondly back on "the Kennedy Era," despite its faults. That generation was really mind-fu*led by JFK's assassination - I mean, really damaged psychologically. I did a study on the phenomenon in college.

Give him some leeway; he knows "the score" more than many here, and tells the facts about it.

Personally, I think all lawn should be replaced with vegetables and flowers.

My grandparents (mom's parents) won the Home Landscaping of the Year Award in my hometown of Lodi...all their own work, just the two of them. Most of their yard was flowering plants.

Yes, people long for that.

If all I needed to do to bring back a wholesome country was grow a green lawn, I'd be on my knees right now, carefully cultivating each blade of grass!
