It occured to me as I was reading another thread that we spend so much time defending what we are not. Maybe it's shills, maybe well intentioned posters that mistakenly incorporate strawman arguments, maybe it's just human nature. Regardless, I'd like to flip the strawman on its head and ask an open ended question:

What do you believe?

What do you believe is good, bad, fake, real, true, lies. Whatever you'd like to share, I'm interested in hearing. I'll go first-

1. I believe that Jesus of Nazareth is the way, the truth, and the life.
2. I believe that limited liability is a very bad thing. Also I believe that limited liability is responsible for a much greater share of our problems than most other people realize.
3. I believe that people should be held fully accountable for what they do, not for what they might do.
4. I believe that the strategy of 'group punishment' is a an important arrow in TPTB quiver.
5. I believe that fractional reserve banking, fiat, and usary should be illegal and punished severely.
6. I believe in absolute morality as opposed to moral relativity. For this reason I am NEVER in favor of coercion.
7. Because of this, I believe that in a truly free society, citizens should always have the option of opting out of government programs.
8. I believe that there should be no public schools.
9. In fact, I believe that education in general is vastly overrated.
10. I believe that patriotism is a psyop.
11. I believe that forums like these are so riddled with shills and agentuers as to shock the average poster here.
12. I believe in the power of IO (information ops).
13. I believe in absolute property ownership.
14. I believe that responsibility (for the most part) is a psyop.
15. I believe that things are much worse than most of the so called enlightened would imagine.
16. I believe that countries and borders only exist in pretense.
"The new world order will be replaced with the new world order." - hypertiger
"Their ain't no countries no more." -They Live
17. I believe in the danger of occultism.
18. I believe that there are fake Christians that post on this very forum.
19. I believe these people are dangerous.
20. I believe that scarcity and peak oil are well contrived myths.

I agree with you on almost all.

In fact, that's the "problem" with discussions/debates/arguments as occur on fora like this.

We all agree on far, far more than we disagree, so we logically focus on those things we disagree on.

I believe there is something in this life (and after) greater than me. I will not insult it by labeling it or giving it a name.
I believe in conservative financial practices and liberal social practices. I feel it's important to be prepared for whatever might come along and I wouldn't want someone telling me what I can and can not do with my life.
I believe in the general good of people...this may be naive
People have my respect until they give me a reason to take it back...it doesn't usually get handed out again.
I believe fear stops people from becoming what they want to be...I work to remove it from my life.
I believe in loyalty to my friends and family. I have a lot of acquaintances but very few friends...I can count my friends on two hands

There's more but would like to answer more direct questions rather than ramble.

1- I believe that there is ONE reality
2- I believe everyone has their own perception of that reality
3- I believe reality DOES NOT CARE how we perceive it, it will continue to be what it is
4- I believe this universe is eternal... It has always existed and will continue to exist... FOREVER
5- I believe there is NOTHING "divine", "exhaulted", or otherwise "special" about humans in the "eyes" of the universe
6- I believe god(s) and other supernatural beings DO NOT exist anywhere but in the minds of men
7- I believe the ONLY hope for mankind in the long run is to learn the true nature of reality (philosophy), then to apply it to his social systems (politics and economics)
8- I believe that the only correct, just, and workable economic system is government-free capitalism (the private ownership and trade of resources and the means of production)
9- I believe that the only correct, just, and workable political system is a Constitutional Republic, founded on the ideals of individuality, self-determination, non-interference FROM and TOWARD other men, and freedom from governmental restriction EXCEPT in cases of breach of that non-interference (crime).

Other than that, I believe it's time for a beer! ;D

I believe in rainbows and puppy dogs and fairy tales.

And I believe in the family - Mom and Dad and Grandma.. and Uncle Tom, who waves his penis.

And I believe 8 of the 10 Commandments.

And I believe in going to church every Sunday, unless there's a game on.

And I believe that sex is one of the most beautiful, wholesome and natural things.. that money can buy.

And I believe it's derogatory to refer to a woman's breasts as "boobs", "jugs", "winnebagos" or "golden bozos".. and that you should only refer to them as "hooters".

And I believe you should put a woman on a pedestal.. high enough so you can look up her dress.

And I believe in equality, equality for everyone.. no matter how stupid they are, or how much better I am than they are.

And, people say I'm crazy for believing this, but I believe that robots are stealing my luggage.

And I believe the Battle of the Network Stars should be fought with guns.

And I believe that Ronald Reagan can make this country what it once was - an arctic region covered with ice.

And, lastly, I believe that of all the evils on this earth, there is nothing worse than the music you're listening to right now. That's what I believe.

I believe we need to see the server issues resolved or GSUS will join the ranks of GIM1 in the website graveyard.

I believe humans have issues with responsibility and guilt. Guilt prevents them from accepting or wanting responsibility. Because of this, there is urge to accept authority. Most accept the authority of other humans as well as some sort of spiritual authority taught to them by other humans.

People need to feel as if they are doing right, to avoid feeling guilt. That puts us in conflict with the real world, where competition and survival are necessary and instinctive. The softest of us would likely still kill bambi if we hadn't eaten for a week. The appeal to authority is an easy way out, to let us get through life with a minimum of guilt. The average person likes being told rules, while still complaining and bending them slightly. It allows them to give up their responsibility... "sure I crashed the car, but I was going under the speedlimit, and not doing anything illegal, so it's not my fault." "Sure my kid got really sick but I was just doing what the doctor recommended." "Sure my retirement money is gone but I was just doing what the investment experts recommended" "Sure my job is gone but I was just voting the way the union recommended."

Parents are the worst for it. A kid falls out of the tree - well that means the tree has to come down because it's dangerous. Some food is unhealthy for kids - well it should be off the shelves! It's too much for them to think that maybe they should watch their kids or think about what they feed them.

Given the urge for leadership by most of the population, we're always going to have leaders. The people need someone to blame for their own failures. Much like a financial adviser... "sure you can do what you want with my money, anything so I don't have to take the blame for my own mistakes." It's also a reason schools are so important... "my kid can't spell properly or do math and he got caught stealing candy... bad school!"

And when the people demand leadership, other people will fill that demand and take advantage of it. It's inevitable. Power leads to corruption, even for a good person. For the strongest and most moral person, power will just lead to death. As long as we set up these powerful positions, we'll get what we always get.

The proper solution is for people to get out of the habit of wanting someone else to run their lives. That won't happen. My secondary solution/philosophy is that if you don't like how things are, then your duty is to take what power you can for yourself. At the very least, don't give up what little you have. The most 'immoral' person to me is the one that is capable of thinking and understanding, but then does everything he can to be powerless because he only feel righteous if he is a victim. Wanting to be a victim is idiotic, in my opinion (except when used as a temporary tactic in a well thought-out strategy.)
