Just curious to what people think.

I'm thinking about maybe $2K

It's hard to say since we don't know how weighted your portfolio is in PM's, how your preps are (as MNeagle said), and your general financial situation.

I don't think it would be a bad idea though. I think (as we all do) that ultimately silver is headed much higher but it's so damn volatile manipulated that it could drop big to in the short term, I doubt that would bother you though.

If it were me I would if nothing else 2k seems like a good plan.

Ammo is covered, but I am probably a little low on food preps. What's funny is that I just bought some industrial shelving so I can build a good stash.

I was going to buy more silver but i decided to put it towards more food and water, actually i bought a couple more water filters with extra ceramic filters.

Now i need to get some type of rad alert warning device and some Potassium Iodide pills.

Rad alert warning device? Potassium Iodide pills? You expecting a nuke going off?

It's depressing that 4k won't even get you 3 1oz GE's. 10 years ago you could've gotten 15. :o

And today you can't get 1% for a 100K CD. Life is really f'd.

Well they have been used in the past and their are an awful lot of them in the world probably orbiting out in space as well.

Who knows where they are all targeted at or who has access to them.

All i know is all the major players are in the northern hemisphere so that is where the rad clouds will circulate.

Look what happened with the missing Nukes on August 29-30, 2007 from Minot AFB N.D. to Barksdale AFB in Louisiana.

IMO, food first.
Get a years worth of freeze dried that has a 30 year shelf life. It's like life insurance that you actually get to use instead of some next of kin something or other.

Then get a lil' silver and/or gold if you like and keep a bit in cash. Water filter?

My Mom always complains of that.
Everytime she does, I tell her, "Mom, that's just their way of telling you they don't really want your money". She still doesn't really get it.

Depends.......on how much cash you have easliy accessed, how much pm's you presently have and of course the necessities.

If 4k is all you have to really ease up on, I personally would not get rid of too much.......cash on hand will get you alot of deals on just about everything from the "average joes".

You know Luis, I'm thinking about 2K in preps and the rest in silver. Right now for the most part preps are still cheap.

4K is the absolute minimum I would want to have in FRN's buried in the ground. Just saying.

Just dug up one of my stashes today and the bills are still crisp and dry. For what they are paying you to put it in a bank, the ground looks very good with no counter party risk.

I keep notes from the "neighbors" as well, Canadian and Mexican, just in case.

mountain house still has a good 25% sale going - if you are light on food - I would do food. This stuff won't stay at these prices - commod prices and food shortages are here and energy prices are going up as well.....

My game plan and thought process is...

At this point you should have enough PM's - I'd say 2 or 3 years in living expenses of silver/FRN's and enough gold to buy what you are thinking to buy in 2-3, maybe 5 years or enough to relocate/setup yourself.

If so, I wouldn't buy any more PM's at this stage. Everyone has a belief in what will happen - but none of us know. So, you have to plan for a couple scenerios. I'd hold some FRN's ready to go in case of a big price dip next year.

Guns and ammo - sounds like yer good there. Food - I would get a year of freeze dried if you don't have it. That is a lot of food and a good chunk of money. The bonus is - the stuff is very good tasting, healthy and light. As a bonus, you can eat it as every day food if you don't end up needing it. We will most likely see food prices skyrocket.

So, PM's, guns, food - this you already knew - now - do you have some good, long lasting clothes? I'm talking Carhartt type stuff. It is cheap as it ever will be right now - $35 bucks for some seriously rugged Dungarees. We are most likely going to see all commodity prices continue to ramp up - buying some good socks/boots/pants/jackets are a good investment...If I already had that I would get a good tent/sleeping bag/camping gear - for a worst case scenario bug out. This stuff is a good investment - won't be going down in price and it isn't stuff that will go to waste if your life remains stable.

If that doesn't work for you I would through the money into a trading account and hedge myself in fuels and/or food producers - or just have the cash ready to purchase some investments - there will be a time to pick up some solid deals on the cheap.

Full size 4x4 Dodge diesel, I've added a CB since this picture etc. But I was thinking about adding an additional 80 gallon tank.

Since I own it I was thinking about a mat green paint job but that cost money etc.

Most people forget to upgrade the bug out rig, perhaps get a rack to hold a dirt bike or other secondary equipment, the tank is a great idea!

I've always thought it was a great idea, if you were in a catastrophic bug out scenario with a destination of farther than 500 miles it seems like a must. I imagine cars would be strung out all over the roads way short of where they were trying to go (hurricane evac for example)

The only downside I could see is how much it would cost to fill up 100+ gallons in commiefornia. :o

Shell, tow hitch, full sized spare, 2nd alternator and battery - armor plating

my next addition is a good cargo trailer for my rig.

Frankly I would go with 2 or 3, 5/10 gallon cans - or a fuel transfer tank instead of a built in tank - lots around on the cheap.

Im putting together a IH Scout II. Bigger than a Jeep, smaller than a fullsize. It has the diesel, but Im considering a SB Chevrolet instead.Rugged and easy to get critical parts for, I like the Scout.

I don't have one, but I always though it would be a great idea to have a good strong winch on a truck/jeep (No, not THAT kind of a winch) :D

A winch is a MUST on any bug out vehicle.Even that big ol Dodge of GOD's may need a little help fording a creek or a big ditch.
