(Reuters) - The head of Wal-Mart Stores Inc's (WMT.N) U.S. discount stores has some bad news for grown-ups this holiday season -- expect to get practical, everyday gifts.
"For all you adults out there, I think you should plan on socks and underwear for Christmas," Bill Simon, president and CEO of Wal-Mart's U.S. division, said during a presentation at an analyst conference.
Consumers are continuing to be frugal in a weak economy, and the holiday season is expected to be "very competitive" and focused on prices and practicality, Simon said.
Simon was named head of U.S. discount stores for Wal-Mart in June and is charged with improving sales at the unit, which has seen sales at stores open at least a year fall for the past five quarters.
One of the ways the company is trying to improve sales is by putting back products that were cleared from stores during its "Project Impact" store overhaul in 2008.
The company has been putting food and other items back on shelves and is now moving into hardware and fishing, Simon said.
Wal-Mart is "going as fast as we can" to restore items, he said, but depending on the item, it can take time for a supplier to get the product back into stores.
Wal-Mart shares were up 19 cents at $52.85 on the New York Stock Exchange early Wednesday afternoon.

Wal-Mart is "going as fast as we can" to restore items, he said, but depending on the item, it can take time for a supplier to get the product back into stores........the reason for this is that eve Wal-Mart is having trouble obtaining what they need from China due to the lost of value of the US dollar, as time goes by it will get worse and worse........there will be a time when the ten pairs of soc for $6.00 that I bought will cost $6.00 for one pair.
Three years ago I bought all the socks and underwear that I will need for the rest of my life, and at bargain price.

Five years from now we'll be wearing dead people's socks, so getting socks for Xmas 2010 is all good.

This will be known as "The Christmas of Horror" for children across the US.
The howls of anguish will be heard Christmas morning as millions of children realize in horror that the new barbie/playstation/etc.. not only is not coming, but that they will have the thank their relations (and Santa) for socks and underwear!
The Christmas Horror?
The Christmas that never was?
.... psychiatrists will be able to mine this issue for decades!

if i'm going to get underwear for Christmas, i'd rather receive used women's underwear - for framing & sniffing.*

did you know - used underwear is an industry ?

"Would you Like to sniff my dirty panties?
Well ok then, you can, as long as you pay me for them that is LOL. I have an amazing collection of well worn panties, bras and nylons for sale. Some I have owned for years and years, others months and months, some only weeks, but what you can be sure of is they will be worn again, especially for you, for as long as you want me to. I will also ship my worn items anywhere in the world, so anyone, anywhere can have what they want from my knicker drawer.
Want my panties? Then visit my web site, choose yourself a pair, decide how long you want me to wear them for, if you’d like me to make a video or photo set of me wearing them for you, plus whether you’d like them made ’extra’ dirty in anyway, then just submit your order. I will then contact you within 24 hours giving you more details on your chosen payment option and within no time, I will be wearing my knickers, just for you, before sealing them in a vacumed sealed bag and sending them off to you. Now, how does that sound? "
let's invite her to join G-S.us. turning used panties into gold and silver - now that is like Midas or something ! :o
* maybe we should introduce Abby to Ponce. we need to make sure her custom used underwear doesn't have any brown streaks - unless that's what the customer ordered.
i doubt they will ever be selling used underwear at Walmart but ... you never know. ;D
Abby has a competitor named Mirella -

gunDriller? CIS Las Vegas had a show about this.........they had models walking around on stage with customers sitting around them and they were buying what the models were wearing.....the more good looking that they are the higher the price.........they even would put the panties in airtight boxes so that they would not loose the smell hahahahahahahahahah.

Actually, it's the forecast for the ADULTS, not the children. Kids will always manage to get toys imo.

Funny I was just in Walmart other and saw some socks that had the 2 free bonus pairs.
Picked them up.
I think because US grows cotton this should be one of the first lines of manufacturing that comes back after the collapse.
How long that takes is another question.
My state does not tax small clothing purchases.
Are there any states that do ?

nope. some men like smelling women's underwear.
i wouldn't pay money for it but ... hey man, it is one of the five senses !
as far as Abby & Mirabel ... it sounds like Abby is selling some undies.
i hear men in prison like getting women's underwear too.
i'm not sure what the buy-sell spread is though. there may be an arbitrage opportunity in here somewhere.
i wonder if i could sell my underwear to some wealthy divorcee ? Craigslist.

I went to the doctor for my check-up and he said he needed a blood sample, a urine sample, a semen sample and a stool sample, so I just left him my underwear.

Raymond: Gotta get my boxer shorts at K-Mart.
Charlie: [Pulls over, gets out of the car and yells] WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE WHERE YOU BUY UNDERWEAR? WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE? UNDERWEAR IS UNDERWEAR! IT IS UNDERWEAR WHEREVER YOU BUY IT! IN CINCINNATI OR WHEREVER!
Raymond: K-Mart!
Charlie: You know what I think, Ray? I think this autism is a bunch of shit! Because you can't tell me that you're not in there somewhere!
Raymond: Boxer shorts. K-Mart!

Why in the hell is Wally World telling there shoppers what they should be buying for themselves for Christmas?
Seems damn odd to me.
What good retailer wouldn't be doing there best to rape there customers on their higher margin merchandice?
Does walmart tell adults every year what they should be buying for each other?
I might have been missing some instructions. Crap no gold. :(

Ponce cornered the TP futures, so Wall Marx has no physical into the forward curve. With this in mind, they cornered the underwear market, and are now trying to increase demand so that customers will be able to substitute new underwear for TP when there is a shortage. I suspect that engineered shortage will occur in December, so I am buying up companies that make rags.

I guess most people here are too young to know what The American Way used to be. Christmas was basically a time to get new socks and Levis. They weren't jeans, they were Levis, and they were made in the USA. We also had real trees, not incredible simulations. Real trees didn't seem expensive. We bought actual ornaments for the trees, not strings of cheap lights. We decorated the tree, not the house. Stores hung actual ornaments instead of just putting up seasonal posters.
And we thought life was mighty good then.
