Porcupine 1 - PitBull 0
A pitbull was in his backyard in southern California , minding his own business, when a porcupine invades his territory. The brave but stupid pit bull immediately challenges the porcupine!
Bad decision. .. . the porcupine won this short contest.
A vet sedated the dog and then removed a total of 1,347 quills. The dog survived and has, hopefully, learned a valuable lesson.
Now, tell me you had a bad day!!

In Arizona we don't have porcupines, we have Bougainvillea. I had one in my back yard and I had to put a plastic tire on my wheelbarrow until I got it dug out. A rubber tire wouldn't stay inflated more than a couple of trips.

That just goes to show how tenacious a pit bull is. It will continue to attack regardless of pain. I'm willing to bet the porcupine died. Think of that the next time you walk down the street with your kids and one comes bounding up.... :o

I saw the photos and immediately thought what this would mean in our own human terms.
The politicians versus the people.
Somehow it made me feel peaceful.
Be(a)st wishes,

Thanks for that, you beat me to it. Some people just eat up a story without ever even thinking about what is right in front of their eyes. This story is quite old, btw.

I remember trying to pet one when I was around 5 up at the ol' trout stream in MI with my grandparents in the 50's.
I can't remember much else about grandma, but I remember her pulling those damn quills out of my hand. :boohoo

i had a similar experience with cactus spines when i was about 11.
we were in Colorado sliding down hills on pieces of cardboard.
took about 2 hours of tweezer work to remove the cactus spines from my butt.

When I was a kid used to go out and play and explore in the chaparral, there was a kind of cactus that we
called jumping cactus, looked like a link sausage bush. And all you had to do was think (sometimes not)
and that stuff would get on you "ouch" It was everywhere. It was on you before you knew it.
Pliers and tweezers and gritting of the teeth then an oath later "I will be more careful" next time. (did not work)

FWIW a pit bull is not any more likely to attack a human than any other breed.

I wouldn't be surprised if you did have porcupines in Arizona, they have them in West Texas. In Texas porcupines kill 20 pinon pine trees a year, each. Up in the Northwest, porcupines devour the bark of lodgepole pines and climb fir trees and devour the bark up high where it's tastier.
I heard they're good eating, about like pork and tender.
