I have a strange feeling that NOW is the time to start replenishing my preps and looking towards the future.

First things first.

Storage.

Yeah ya need shelf space. WELL BUY SHELVES.

I purchased this on sale for $99, very strong, 700 lbs per shelf and a probably about 6 months worth of preps can be stored on them.

Now you have to calculate food per person, then per day, month, then per family member.

So one person should eat 6 times per day, but in a SHTF we'll use 3 times per day

So if we use a can of something per meal that's three cans per day, or 90 meals per month, 6 months = 540 meals for six months. Three mouths to feed = 1620 meals.

Let's assume you want to go straight chili for meals, 1620 cans of chili. Yeah boring, not the best idea but for the purpose of conversation. A can of chili is aobut 12 ounces. 1620 cans of chili equals 1215 POUNDS. So you can see where I'm going with this. This doesn't happen over night.

This thread is for ideas. My plan.

I've got two 55 gallon plastic drums that I plan on cutting the tops off and placing 75 gallon plastic bags in. I'm going to store, rice and beans in them that are already bagged. Then I'll have about 810 cans of food. Everything from chili, beans, fruit etc. Being that most cases come in a 8 can configuration I'll need about 100 cases.

So to me what does that mean?

1 - At Costco that's about $800
2 - It requires SPACE, that's why the strong shelves. Based on my calculations I'll get 90 cases on there
3 - TIME - Making the time to purchase everything.

Again. Prepping takes time, and money. This is going to take a new person a few trips. Get shelves, shopping etc.

OK, who's next with ideas?

yeah I've been working on a BoB. Lite pack with a couple days rations. I still need a bit of gear. Have been replenishing the main supplies this last few weeks. Things are only going to get worse from here.

I started with my BOB once that was completely sorted out and perfect I started to relax some I got lots of confidence that I had something that allowed me to evacuate my house naked in the dead of the night in under 30 seconds that would let me survive for a week or so.

Then every thing built off there using the "round robin" approach

Beans
Bullets
Bullion

get all to 1 week
then a month
3 months
and so on

Now I am stocking primitive tools and home -steading gear you will never appreciate a chinsaw more until you drop a tree with a buck saw and chop it up into firewood Not to mention when you start doing that you really need to rethink your "survival calorie meals 1200/day simply will not cut it I budget 4000 for workers and 2000 for domestics and kids a day.
