I've put this off long enough.
I'm looking at a pair of the Honda EU 2000i companion generators that i could run parellel and having two will give me a back up if one should go down.
My needs would be to run a computer, refer, AC window unit a TV and a couple lights...not necessarily all at once.
I believe I can get them for $1,000 a piece.
Opinions? Looking to buy by the Holidays.

Be advised that the circuit board in those Honda EU2000i generators which controls the eco throttle costs over $300 to replace. The generator will still run without the eco throttle though.

I have one and I love mine. But by no means think of it as suitable for heavy use.

just lost everything I typed! :redfc

I don't know abut them 2000 watt jobs (24amp) at all besides I'm sure they are quieter than mine.

I have a 10 year old 10hp 5500 watt (appx 66 AMP) noisemaker that runs my whole house including the well for 8 hours without a fuel refill. We can watch movies, have 3-4 computers going, fridge, freezer etc on the single generator. I saw one that was 6500 watt the other day for I believe 550.00. The only thing that I have to run separate is the electric hot water which will get too cold to shower after about 3 days. I pull the meter & backfeed from an outbuilding 120 foot away so the noise does not matter.

oing to copy this incase we get lost in space again.

Good look finding spare parts for that Chinese made junk. You get what you pay for. A relative has a beach house where there is no electric service. Everyone who has a house on that beach runs those cheap 3600 rpm gasoline generators they buy at Home Depot. And everyone replaces their cheap 3600 rpm generator after 4 or 5 months.

And that cheap chinese junk engine is a Honda clone, complete with parts interchange.

You are looking at all inverter types are you? I think that is what you will want for the computer and any electronics you may want to operate. I only mention this just in case you didn't know already. You can't go wrong with a honda or a yamaha. Very quite also.

I can be swayed, but reasons I am looking at inverter types.

Compact, can store inside home
Best type for electronics use
Quiet
Very portable
I can run 2 in parellel in summer heat -AC unit
I have seen external fuel tanks that can be connected
$2,000 to spend
Having 2 provides a backup unit

What's a good generator worth in the event of a major disaster, earthquake, power grid down, etc.?
How much gold would you give for one if none were available?

this is so right. i had a yamakoyo and for parts it said use applicable honda part. some things like the petcock on the fuel tank were different. and some had problems dropping valves but they definitely copied the honda.
