View Full Version : Hernias F***NG suck!!

I got one 2 days ago waiting for a window for surgery.

For me it feels like a groin muscle pull combined with a kick in the nuts. I can also feel food/gas being passed down my digestive tract through my groin. a 50lb bag of rice on my stomach does help but it's hard to work that way.

Not looking for sympathy or prayers. Don't feel bad either it happened during sex, so I suppose that is the best way to get hurt ;D

Looking for a discussion on anyones experience with it.

Getting old sucks especially because I lived my life like I would not live to see 30 and it's caught up to me.

Exercise, exercise, exercise and exercise.. Only way to age gracefully.

Or you could try a "hair of the dog" type technique and go have more sex!

:D

What kind of hernia?

I had an adult umbilical hernia repair last year, it was painful and even now I get some twinges.

When they give you Vicodin for the pain, remember that each pill has some amount of acetaminophen (should say on the bottle). More than 4 grams total each 24 hours is bad for your liver, so be careful with the dosage.

Feel for you ! Have been their and done that. Back in my 20's reaching and grabbing a tad too much.

And we do pay for the sins of our youth, when we feel indestructible. No one says that the body takes notice
then but may not complain until we get much older. So in a way we do pay for the sins of our past in the physical sense.

Know they are not fun, wish you well and this gets behind you soon.

Also this may be a good lesson learned and remembered?

Why get surgery? Just order a hernia belt online, or several different ones so you can find a comfortable one and live with it. Keep your weight down.

Why let a stupid surgeon hack you up and cram a patch of window screen in your abdomen? Hernia surgeries are about 30% succesful. Often you'll be worse after surgery.

I hope you heal fast and well.

My friend's dad passed a few years ago. He was healthy and strong as an ox. One of those real life 'ninja' martial art masters. Worked for decades running a construction business.

A few years ago he suffered a hernia on the job. Doctor recommended surgery to fix.

Complications arose during surgery and he passed in what was supposed to be a routine procedure.

RIP Fred.

No surgery is every minor. Like I said above I hope you heal quickly and safely.

In some ways the success of the surgury depends on how young you are and how physicaly in shape you are in.
Think (?) I was 25 when the deed was done and had no problems. In the day of surgery out the next, nookie that night. (carefully) It did not hurt that I was dating a nurse at the time. ;D ;D

Sounds like you 'busted a nut' literally!

You are probably incarcerated (bowel trapped in sac). You should have an experienced surgeon look at it but in general, incarcerated hernias require permanent (surgical) repair. Surgery is always dangerous and should be a last resort. High failure rate in inquinal herniorraphy is correlated with three main variables:
1. Poor patient compliance with surgeon instructions post op
2. failure to lose weight
3. skill (or lack thereof ) of surgeon

Good luck!

I'd like to add a #4. There's always the possibility of an allergic reaction to the anesthesia but I think it's rare.

I hope you can get it fixed and feel better soon Mightymanx.

Yeah inguinal hernias suck, high failure rate with surgery, not high chance of recovery by your own if you can't afford to be still for a few months without lifting and straining... Don't know about hernia belts though, may be worth a try... Anyway good luck!

Yep it is pretty much like Mamboni said. He must be a doctor or something ;)

I am no stranger to surgery I have Crohns and have had 11 surgeries since 2007.

The shitty deal is with the brilliant Socialized medical system I am in (military) medical care I can't get in to see a surgeon until mid October so I don't know what the hell to do other than stay high as hell and still be in a butt load of pain. And we are expecting to run an entire country on this system HA!!

Going back to the referral DR and telling her that this is not going to work tried to tell her that over the phone but "For liability reasons I cant.......blabla words words)

I have a healthy weight and I am fit 37 year old.

Here is the "why" for the surgery. My intestine is still stuck through the muscle and is hanging below my nuts. When gas passes through my intestine it makes my nuts and me scream with pain as the bubble passes by. I need them to pull my guts back on the other side of the muscle to free it but I apparently need to wait 3 weeks for this "privilege" I am living the joys of socialized medicine. Lots of pills to make me happy but no real timely fix. welcome to the future of this country.

that could quickly become a medical emergency if it becomes strangulated, then your risk of a rupture increases, and THAT can be life or death

Your stomach muscle tore open during sex?

Sounds like things are falling apart. When is the last time you've done a sit-up?!?

I do PT every day (it's a military thing)... well I have not done any since this but I am not a flabby couch potato. I personally perfer crunches and planks to situps.

Don't feel bad either it happened during sex,

HA!! That's exactly how mine happened!

That's funny shit... (not the hernia, just the catalyst)

Hope the surgery goes well. Just don't watch Dirty Rotten Scoundrels when you get home. I made that mistake.

I started to laugh hysterically during this scene, and told my girlfriend to "turn it off!"... instead she turned it UP, full blast.

Needless to say, I almost had to go back to get the operation redone.
