View Full Version : food stamp story from this weekend

i keep hearing about how xxxx number of americans are on some sort of public assistance. here's a good one for you:

yesterday, i stopped by kwik trip to get some gas. it's a midwestern gas station chain. the stores are fairly large and have a large selection of shitty foodstuff at 4 times what it would cost at a grocery store.

anyway, i go to pay, and i have to press a button on the card reader to select my payment type. my choices were:

1) EBT debit
2) debit
3) credit

so i ask the lady, "i want to use my debit card, which debit thing do i choose?" she says, "are you on foodstamps?"

i'm like, "what?" she says, "choose EBT debit if you want to use your foodstamp credits, otherwise if you have money, press debit."

you could tell she was clearly annoyed at it.

anyway, the moral of the story is that a GAS STATION has a PERMANENT key on the payment machine now for foodstamps.

this is not a good sign.

Being in the liquor biz I'm glad I don't have to deal with that EBT button. I have noticed a little racket going on with those cards though as it pertains to booze and smokes. I suppose it's gone on in some shape, form or fashion for as long as there's been food stamps but watching them barter it out is quite intriguing nonetheless. One guy bartering his cash to another guy with his food stamp card for steaks/food/booze...the guy with the cash is in the position of power and always comes out on top.

i had no idea they even got debit cards. i thought they still used coupons. i guess there must have been too much shame in coupons, so they moved it to where it looks like you're a normal person.

That's exactly what happened! Working folks were noticing the people paying with coupons were eating a LOT better than they were and were pissed about it. I actually saw two women in shouting/pushing match over it in a Krogers many years ago and looking at what the food stamp woman had on the checkout conveyor was high dollar stuff.

it made really sad on another level as well.

i mean, if you're using your foodstamp credits at a gas station, you have to be a complete moron that warrants being culled from the gene pool. why would you spend 5 times as much for a pack of bacon at kwik trip than going to a grocery store? it literally is chewing up the credits at an exponential rate.

it made me have even less hope for the country when i saw it. if you're so stupid that you can't even figure out how much things cost, and there are big packs of you so much so that we have to have a permanent EBT key on the machine, i mean, come on...

Yup. Dated this woman for a short time a couple years ago. She and her teenage daughters ate WELL. I was surprised at the amount of high end food and ingredients she had in the fridge or cupboard.
Maybe it was because she had an office job with the state. I guessed it was more likely because it wasn't her money.

Because it's not their money. Why should they give a crap.
Their card gets reloaded in few days.

They can also use their cards at the casinos to gamble with. People should be arrested for that.

The reasoning is something to the effect that the stigma of using actual food stamps/coupons and the shame one feels when presenting them is a violation of that person's constitutional rights or some bolshevism like that.

This is WHY they are on foodstamps. A lifelong string of bad decisions.

Congress is sh!tting their pants too scared to even allow the TOP 1%'s tax cut to expire. Financing on borrowed money from China our continued deficit spending on the backs of the unborn goyim grandchildren. And here we are whining about somebody on food stamps...lol.

Book has a very valid point here. Either way it's a form of class warfare with the middle at odds with the top and the bottom, problem is the middle is quickly becoming the bottom.

Congress and Bernanke shoveled $TRILLIONS in welfare to the banksters and somebody here is annoyed by some poor goy bastard on food stamps?

The EXACT same thing happened to me here in California at a high-end organic food grocery store I went to. I was very embarrassed I didn't know what EBT debit meant, (it was the first and biggest button,) but now I'll remember.

I see the same.
I wonder how many of these places would go under if all these programs stopped ?

I don't think your LOLing I think you are sneering.

We understand that these parasites are the democrats voting base.

Their foot soldiers if you will.

When this house of cards collapses I hope they have you for dinner.

yeah book, i'm annoyed. because instead of getting 20 worth of free food at a supermarket, they're getting 5 worth of free food at a gas station. simple math. i think it transcends politics.

The thing you guys are all missing is that you will all be on it eventually. It won't be called food stamps but it will be some kind of ration system. The life of the free range slave is almost over.

I just assume that anyone who doesn't pay with cash is some kind of lowlife. Either a welfare bum, or someone so broke they have to charge their groceries, or a moron who doesn't know or care that using their debit card will result in their every purchase being logged forever. I get to sneer at almost everyone. :)

Anybody care to guess who receives huge fees processing all those EBT transactions for Quick Trip and the grocery stores?

The debit cards are also cheaper to administer and more secure with a far better audit trail than physical coupons.

Some of you guys try too hard to force your world-views on every possible situation, even where it clearly doesn't apply, like here.

I think the minimum allowance is $200 a month, and that'd be for a single person, so for a family, just go up from there

I used a debit card (bank account linked) to buy some crap at wal marx recently and I had some groceries, beer, some hardware and paint, and a couple of non-food household items the wife needed. The lady rings it up, I swipe the debit card, ask for cash back and she is confused. She asks me "is this a food stamp card?" I was like "If it was I hope it would have the sense to not allow this beer and non-food, and not let you give me cash, what do you think?"

She was having a bad day and shut it. I felt bad for saying that, but I should have said more. I think there is a crapload more food stamps than anyone knows is going on. I think it's a new backroom fiat they got started.

I have been pissed off by this since I was in college watching fat families check out huge shopping carts full of shit and paying their coupons, then the amount of non-subsidized at the end of the transaction and Mr. Bling pulls out a fat wad of cash and ponies up a few bucks for his beer and cigs. I was paying for spaghetti and sauce and some veggies and eggs, paying with my last money and hungry. This stuff is out of control. I used to hate those people when I was in college, it made me so mad. It still makes me mad. I was mean to that lady at Walmarx. I should have made a scene.

Are you that fascist bastard that constantly asks for my "shoppers club card", and if I don't subscribe I gotta pay extra? ;)
