Here's a whoppee-doo article about "scientists" finding a life supporting planet:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100929/ap_on_sc/us_sci_new_earths

This "news item" shows to me the hubris of so-called scientists.

Their basic assumption is that life can only exist in a carbon-based form , relying on water, temperature, etc, to be viable.

Anal-Holes!!!

OK, won't say more past the above. The spiritual aspect of it all is key... if you believe in God (which apparently these scientists don't though I could be wrong) everything is on the table... including non-carbon-based life-forms. But... I guess if you don't believe in the concept of a soul... then carbon-based life forms are the ONLY possibility.

What do YOU think???

Personaly I think the universe is teaming with life, not that means that there is life on mars but the universe is a big place.Life has been found in almost every place on conceivable on earth.

I don't think someone's views on the soul has anything to do with accepting non-carbon-based life.

I also think we'll find life out there, although maybe not recognize it at first. And we'll find a ton of crap where the question comes up "is it living or not?"

+1 what he said. And I for one am in the camp that the life found may not be exclusivity carbon based.

Anyone who doubts the possiblities of God's creation is only fooling themselves.

I suggest looking at the Hubble Deep-field images (http://www.google.ca/images?um=1&hl=en&tbs=isch%3A1&sa=1&q=hubble+deep+field&aq=f&aqi=g6g-m1&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=) for some humility.

Speaking of habitable Planets in our own galaxy, Gliese C (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gliese_581_c) and Gliese D (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gliese_581_d) are up for consideration as well.

Gliese 581 c initially generated interest because it was originally reported to be the first potentially Earth-like planet in the habitable zone of its star, with a temperature right for liquid water on its surface, and by extension, potentially capable of supporting extremophile forms of Earth-like life.[2][5] However, further research on the potential effects of the planetary atmosphere casts doubt upon the habitability of Gliese 581 c and indicates that the fourth planet in the system, Gliese 581 d, is a better candidate for habitability.
