Ok , I'm sure its been discussed or is just standard knowledge to all or most here .Just not me .
Is there a standard $ or % to pay above spot price of silver for just common date silver dollars .
So say at $22 spot on silver , what would be the price to pay per Dollar coin so as not to cheat myself or the seller?
Thanks

all those have a numismatic value. The clad coins that replaced them dont even resemble them.Morgans carry a higher value than peace because they are older. look at ebay for average real world values.

Silver Eagles would be 2 to 3 dollars over spot at a minimum.
But depending on the date, it could be much more.

I agree with forty's advice. ebay is a good place to look and get an idea what silver dollars sell for.
I like Peace dollars over Morgans myself.
they both have a melt value of $17.0855 right now according to http://www.coinflation.com/silver_coin_values.html
Franklin Halves have always been a personal favorite of mine also. :)

I am looking at the melt value of the coin.
melt value = $17.0855
what would a fair price be to pay per coin and what would a fair price to ask be.
Do you pay more and or ask more than the silver value speculating the price to increase or stick to spot price of silver or pay less thinking of refining cost ?

I believe silver dollars you will most likely pay more than melt, whereas you should be able to pick up 90% dimes and quarters for around their melt value on ebay. I've even picked some up for below melt on occasion. With 90% dollars, I have not seen any below melt on ebay.
I think you will get silver for your buck with silver rounds, or even silver eagles.

i buy LOTS of peace dollars. lots. i expect to pay exactly what spot silver is. $21 or 22 for a shipped peace dollar is acceptable. the numismatic value of the coin makes up for the 1/4 of an ounce that is lacking. i've been buying around 4-500 a year for 20+ years, this ratio is pretty much always on.

I don't think you could find any silver dollar coins at or below spot although sometime you can find Halves and quarters and dimes near melt.
It looks like the premium on a common date silver dollar is basically about the same percentage as an Eagle or a Maple. Maybe a little bit less.

I picked up a few earlier today for $20 each.
I didn't feel too bad paying it... 'specially since I also got some mercury dimes for under spot.

i like Franklin's too. especially BU Franklin's.
US Silver Dollars have a real nice "old-fashioned" feel. they hold their value - e.g. APMex buy price - $18.35 - and they only have about 3/4 ounce of silver. so APMex is paying about $24 per ounce for this form of silver (if you've got a bunch).

I still have a picture memory of it to this day. I am at a local coin show in the mid nineties. I pass by a numerous amount of great looking peace and Morgans selling for 7 bucks each. I looked at them for awhile, a beautiful bunch of coins sitting neatly in a green velvet bottomed glass case. but for some dam reason I didn't buy them. Is better to have gawked and lost than to have never gawked at all I guess.

Now when you say "peace eagle" do mean that is it not behind a war sheild or because it dose not have arrows and spears clutched in its talons??
Just as a aside when they were deciding on a cast for the peace dollar one the earlier renditions had the eagle standing on a rock with a broken sword but the planning committe declined on it because it gave the appearence that we were a defeated people so they just opted for the word "peace" instead. ( I forgot where I read that tasty fact but I alwats remeber it)
