View Full Version : O J Simpson question

O J Simpson spends his time at one of Nevada's Graybar Hotels. I pass the place several time a week.

I don't understand why he didn't just declare bankruptcy after the huge judgement, clear the financial decks, and go on--being stupid.

He seemingly had the world by the butt.

Does anyone have any insight?

Sure... Just another hyper-inflated ego who had everything handed to him, then pissed it all away. That is all.

Bankruptcy puts you in administration until you are discharged. How long that would take given the claims against him is an unknown. It's not like he can just start a new persona like a lot of unremarkable bankrupts can.

The sports memorabilia case smells a bit like he got stitched. The others all changed their stories and did a plea deal saying that guns were used. That was the thing that got him nailed. The testimony of 3 against the 1 that guns were used.

I remember some one postulated that it wasn't him that killed his ex wife but someone related to him by blood that did it. Someone who was apparently infatuated with her. It also seems odd that the criminal court can find you not guilty of a crime but the civil court can find you guilty of a crime. I wonder what happened to the memorabilia?... which he might have been able to sell to pay some of the civil claim against him.

I think that the punitive damages judgment against O.J. Simpson at the time was 33 million dollars. Ever since that time that the civil judgment was awarded to the Goldman and Brown families, they were not able to collect much. From the time that the judgment was awarded 13 years ago, I think it was only $500,000 of that civil judgment was actually collected. I may not be correct on that amount but I thought that was what I read a while back.

Goldman has been aggressively going after OJ Simpson's "hidden assets" for 13 years. 13 years of interest on that judgment brings the total to about $35 million but I might be wrong on the amount. It might be more than that. This goes to show you that winning a civil judgment and collecting on that civil judgment are too different things. The Goldman and Brown families will NEVER be able to collect anymore money from Simpson to satisfy the civil judgment. It is hard (if not impossible) to collect on assets that are either 1.) Do not exist or 2.) Are hidden and beyond the reach of the U.S. civil court laws.

The reason that he moved to Florida because he was able to buy a house there without Goldman being able to legally seize it from him since Florida at that time had an unlimited homestead exemption. The NFL Pension that he is probably still getting while in prison cannot get seized by the Goldmans because Federal law (ERISA?) protects his pension from getting seized by creditors.

OJ Simpson's financial planners and lawyers probably legally (or illegally) hid what remaining assets that OJ Simpson had offshore in some other countries where they do not recognize or ignore U.S. civil judgment laws.

I do not think that a punitive damage civil judgment can be discharged in bankruptcy and that was probably why OJ Simpson did not file BK.

As for OJ Simpson..........Yeah he murdered Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman and he got away with it and a civil judgment against him did not stop him from playing golf and living in a nice expensive looking home in Florida. He used most of his "riches" to buy a "Not Guilty" verdict in the 1994 murder trial. He thumbed his nose at the legal system until he became a dumbass for what he did in Vegas and as a result he went to prision.

I really thought they were going to change the pension laws because OJ stuff was untouchable.

But I think that change is soon coming now being the economic climate is what it is.

Rich and dumb: Cutting off your White wife's head and getting away with it means you're incapable of learning to stay out of trouble.

I thought O.J. was in prison.

Doing a lengthy sentence in NV?

Am I wrong?

Has he been released?

His first parole eligibility hearing is in 2013 and that is much too soon.

As I understand it Florida Law says they can not touch his estate or his football pension so he is or was doing pretty good.

I watched the whole entire trial and based on the actual evidence I think he was framed. Poor OJ :'(

Innocent or not concerning the Los Vegas trial and outcome. In reality he should be setting in death row in California. Now that trial was the joke. He is a murderer and should never be let loose unless feet first to be planted into the ground

Just to play devils advocate for a second. What was the deal with the bloodied glove and the size of the shoeprints left at the scene?

The bloody glove found at the crime scene was dry, but the one found at oj's house was still damp as if it had been in a plastic bag and deposited there right before the police arrived. There were bloody foot prints at the crime scene that did not match oj and could have only been left by one of the killers.

Detective Van Adder walked around with a vile of oj's blood in his pocket at the crime scene, violating the most basic of police procedures. and the list goes on and on.

I don't know if OJ was guilty of the murder or not. I think he probably was guilty. I do believe that TPTB influenced the jury to come back with a not guilty verdict. If he had been found guilty, holy hell would have broken loose across the country, riots in the big cities, you name it.

The whole freeway thing where he drove around being followed by the cops was just too weird and smacked of culpability at least.

Contact the police. He must have escaped from incarceration.

Thanks SJ. I wanted to watch that in full before replying. Very comprehensive investigation. Some things in that just scream out fit up.

This one particularly as the vial contained a preservative which was also found in a blood stain on the carpet AND the vial was 1.5cc short of the 8cc taken from OJ.

I'd be interested to know who was involved in the memorabilia case....LEO wise that is.

The other thing was the watchman cap as seen worn several times by Jason in the pics on that googlevid and one of which was found at the crime scene. OJ ever wear one?
