this shit is pissing me off.
it shows up as "low energy assistance" on my bill. it's money we all have to pay in on top of our bill amount, and then they turn around and use it to give free electricity to other people.
it started out as $0.50 about 10 years ago, today i open my bill and it's $10.15.
my bill was only around $100, and now i have to pay almost an extra 10% in some bullshit "it's not a tax" program.

what really annoys me is i always see all of these ads by xcel energy about how they're "helping the poor out, etc."
bullshit. they got ordered to do it by the legislature, then they turned around and had some lobbyist make sure the law got re-written so i have to pay for it instead of them. then they parade around talking about what a great benefactor they are when they aren't doing shit, the consumer is.

Note: they are not actually giving "free" electricity to people, they are still selling it and making the same markup on it. They just managed to sucker you into paying for it.

That's pretty horrible. Where I live we too have the checkbox option.
Power companies really piss me off though because it seems every year the bill gets higher than the year before. Our companies here are going to our local "corporation commission" at least once a year to seek approval for a rate hike. There are a couple of things they do that really piss me off and those are:
1) advertising -- I don't know how it is where everyone else lives but where I live there are two power companies but you can't actually choose your supplier so advertising is more or less pointless; and
2) subsidies -- our bills include higher prices due to the electric companies efforts to "go green." Their idea of going green includes subsidizing those stupid cfl lightbulbs for all to buy regardless of who their power supplier is. They also give rebates on solar and a host of other things. What you have then is the poor subsidizing the rich as the poor can only take advantage of maybe a cheap cfl while the rich can go solar on the backs of the poor.
I f*ckin hate power companies!

My bill is between $32.00 and $38.00 and they take a few cents....... what consumes most of my energy are my two freezers, frig, water heater, a couple of lights outside, my lap top and one bulb inside.......I try to use my solar lights as much as possible........trying to get used to WTSHTF.......haven't use my main solar power yet because that one is (or will be) for my alarm system.............still using my water by gravity all the way into my home and now I am getting used to it, not much preassure but it works.

i liked your trolling A LOT better when you would argue with people for half a page. it was way more entertaining. these pithy one liners with the eye rolling thing just aren't the same, and they're way beneath your ability. i hope you can bring it back.
