I had previously bought some bags of antibiotics from a local farm store. The concept is to have over-the-counter antibiotics for emergencies. You can get a nice supply of anntibiotics at reasonable prices. Many years ago when I worked for a rare pheasant breeder, we used streptomycin or auremycin in their drinking water in the winters when the birds had signs of sinus infections. We had a very crude way of dosing the water.

The local store had a tetracycline which could be used for cows, sheep, pigs, chickens, turkeys. The package says this product is effective for e-coli & sinus infections.

Well... my dumb dog ate something that was loaded with bacteria a couple weeks ago. It had diahrea for a few days and required numerous trips out... including in the middle of the night. That got old.... and she did not seem to be getting over it. I dosed her with this tetracycline and miraculously she settled right down and got better. The purchase was well worth the investment.

Now the real test. My wife had a sinus infection for a week and was treating it fairly effectively with various herbal and vitamin remedies. Sure enough, just before an important business trip, this nasty bug hits me. Friday night I got the headache and my throat felt like sand paper. Having a decent scale for weighing gold/silver items, I was able to accurately give myself a dose of tetracycline. The product is recommended to be used 3-5 days. I would not want to use it on anyone in my family unless it was an emergency but here was the perfect opportunity to test it on myself and monitor any side effects. So, Saturday morning I started it.

The results were amazing. The sore throat almost immediately cleared up. Much of the day I felt a bit fuzzy and had fevers hit as I worked around the yard. I had very little post sinus drip and my throat felt clean as a whistle. The real test of this would be next morning. Night time is usually the worst for these bugs. Slept well. In morning I could feel a little in the sinuses... took another dose (I am using twice per day) and I feel completely normal... maybe even better.

I now feel confident in using this treatment on others, watching in case they have any allergies.... but definitely when TSHTF, this could make life better. I will stock up more. I hope this helps you to consider this possibility for your preps. BTW- I also stocked up on iodine, topical antibiotics, bird feed, dog food.

Be sure to continue taking the antibiotic for several days after the infection clears up, or you might end up with a worse (antibiotic resistant) infection.

i just had a similar experience and discovered that colloidal silver actually works. first time round with a throat infection, i used penicillin, which took 3 to 4 days to be effective; second time tried CS, which took one day to be effective. i was so impressed i'm currently brewing another batch ;D

The problem is that often times it a virus, not bacterial so the antibiotic won't do anything. It is only needed if there is a secondary bacterial infection (such as a sinus infection following a cold). I would just be sure to take probiotics each time you take antibiotics so your gut flora stays in balance. Otherwise you could be weakening your immune system.

Speaking of that. When my younger son was a baby I always gave him a few drops of echinacea at the onset of a cold for a few days and he did well and usually it would end up being very mild if he showed symtoms at all. I forgot all about that and he has had some really bad colds this past year. I read an article the other day about echinacea for colds and thought "oh yeah that stuff really works". So I stopped at the health food store yesterday and picked some up. I would much prefer to prevent the illness if possible.

I believe that tetracycline becomes poisonous when it gets old, unlike most other antibiotics which just become less potent. It may not be a good candidate for "stocking up" for this reason.

Thanks for the warning. This is a good thing to check out. If it degrades into a more potent toxin, that could make a bad situation worse. Out of the mylar bag that this comes in, I place in a glass jar, extract air via pump, and refrigerate. In mylar bag, the product should last to its expiration date. Frankly, I don't think we have very many years left... if even one.

Yes- absolutely. I will continue with this dose (unless I notice a side effect) for the 5 days. So far it is doing marvelously. This kind of sinus infection I have had before and it is devastating. I am at an international company meeting and cannot afford to be sick. I know it is still there after the crackling in ears (inner & eustachian tube) during flights. 3 days to go.

I don't have any colloidal silver. I will make up another batch soon. I make it by a slow process- 12VDC with large enough resistance to produce minimal current even if short-circuited, distilled water with no salt added. It takes about 6-8 hours to get started and then after 2 days it is a rich solution. Shining a laser or led light through it shows the beam. It takes on a yellow tint.

If an infection is viral, you cannot touch it with antibiotics as sunshine05 states. I use two things for this.... coconut oil and cold-eze. I don't know if the colloidal silver will also help.

I did the same thing at work. Some guy was coughing up a storm, and I felt a tickle in my sinuses for over 24 hours. Used a nasal irrigation device loaded with colloidal silver and all my symptoms went away immediately and have not come back.

I can't wait to get home and fix up a batch. It will take me two days to make it. This bug is nasty. Some more feedback on the experience....

Because I am working long hours and meeting customers & coworkers, we go into the night. I had three drinks and ate much - bad mistake. It was as if I unleashed the monster. The night was a little messed up with the sinuses. I suspect there is an alcohol interaction with the tetracycline. I am still dosing and when I fast I have little of the symptoms. Also, I used a few herbal remedies and I am not sure if they also interfered with the 4cycl. My biggest challenge will be to find time to rest. The next few days will be a blur.

I have never done a nasal irrigation.

BTW- wife still has traces of bug after 2 weeks using herbal remedies. It comes back when you are not able to rest.

Lots of fluids can't hurt either Spectrism.

Hope you and your wife feel better soon.
