I just saw this list and info on another forum and thought I would share it here. :-\

I personally plan to "bug in" as oppose to bugging out...but it still a good list

...

Approximate loaded pack weight limits in term's of carrier's body weight:
10% can be carried by most people even for long periods
15% - 25% for those in good shape for moderate periods
30% can be carried for moderate periods by those in excellent shape
50% max for short periods under good conditions by experienced packers

Though I do have several other small kits, my primary kit is a general use kit. I keep it ready to go for any emergency. Since I can’t carry much on my back, I use a game cart to handle the overwhelming majority of the items.

And since I have to use it anyway, I take advantage of the weight & space capacity and take rather more than most people recommend. Some of the additional weight and space is in the gear, but much of it, however, is in food. I can last well over a month just on what food I have with me.

If the situation changes, or is such that I must lighten or reduce the size of the load, I can merely drop or cache what I don’t need and keep going. Since I plan for many different situations, and can’t afford the duplication necessary for having a bag for each situation, I went with the following non-specific kit:

Field equipment kit (Evac/BOB/BIB/GOOD/INCH/DHS)(~350 pounds)

(Well on the way to having it all, but not quite yet.)

(It is a fairly comprehensive pick and choose list covering all four seasons and the terrain here in the High Desert. Not everyone needs everything. Some items would be left behind or cached, depending on the circumstances. And there are cheaper options available for some of the items for those on a tight budget.)

As to quantities of consumables, since I can carry much more on the game cart than I can on my back, I go for two months. I think three days minimum, seven days much better, and a month or more preferred. You will eat more when on the move than when bugging in, so up the amounts you think you would eat by 10% - 25%. Somewhere in the kit should be important documents in a water proof container.

Just my opinions.

Keep originals in appropriate places w/copies and/or condensed versions in the various emergency kits including BOBs, BIBs, GHBs, GOOD bags, INCH bags, evacuation kits, hurricane kits, etc.

It is also good to keep a set of copies off-site so they can be retrieved even if you have to leave without anything.

Nice list

Here is my take BOB:

I hate electronics in emergencies in my experience they always fail even the kazillion dollar ones. So for me to take an electronic gizmo it had better be worth it to the extreme Like going into battle with a pair af AN/PVS7's that is worth it. for bugout, my kit uses zero batteries with one exception my weapon light on my keltec sub 2000 and I can live without it when it dies. LED dynamo technology has progressed that you get 30-40 minutes of run time on full led's whit 60 seconds of cranking I have dynamo radio head lamp and hand lights sotores on my bag with out worry about discharge leaking or running out. and it weighs a lot less.

I didn't see maps 1-50,000 of local areas with routes planed and a compass GPS is nice but they break and an EMP makes them utterly usless. Compass and map doesn't break and does not need to be fed (bateries)

I did not see repair items like 550 cord, duct tape, small spool of bailing wire, monofilament line I might of missed them but to me those are must haves.

If you were carrying any other rifle than a PTR 91. I would want a broken shell extractor I have ripped cases and a broken shell will take a rifle down for good if you don't have one to fix it. But your fluted chamber generaly prevents that.

Cont:

Rucks are a very personal thing though so it depends on what a person thinks they must have I am a minimalist and my ruck still weighs 60 lbs but I can pack that for dang near forever but I am not doing acrobatics with it or any super cool tactical cool Chuck Norris crap while wearing it either (that was when I was younger ;))

I still keep in mind the law of 3's in my kit:
3 weapons
3 ways to make fire
3 ways to purify water
3 ways to signal
3 ways to cut
3 ways to navigate

I take 4 litres of water

and I am set up to support a family of 2.5 ( I have a 3YO) for 5 days. 7 if I stretch.

but like I said a BOB is a very personal thing.

I think it would be scary as hell to Bug out and be on the move. Or out in the elements :imskerd:

Thats why I plan staying put. I didn't do all this prepping just to have to leave it all behind

I can see it if going too a well known area. And there are people around that know you. (Or not). But going into areas that are not known or well known, that I can see problems. People that have the same ideal that you do and that may not have any scruples on how they look and deal with other people, especially if those people have something they want. Then it may come down to who has the bigger group and firepower.

The more people bugging out together the harder to hide from others. But also the easer to defend.

Here is my motto on the subject

"Hope to bug in, be perpared to leave you house forever in 60 seconds."

A house fire will destroy your bug-in plans in a big hurry my worst case is I am sleeping in bed and have 60 seconds to leave the house I grab bag wife kid and hit the road the boots are tied to the bag and I have clothes to get dressed in the yard.

Every other senario gets better from that one like if I had 5 minutes....10 etc.

Paradise is bugging in.

And one more thing extra car keys in your bug out bag one less thing to grab when you are leaving a burning house.

and i wonder why some people think " bugging in " will be safer

my doom & gloom paranoid side envisions multitudes of hungry sheeple ransacking/looting everything
if you're shooting to keep people out, maybe you got something valuable in there
and if you never leave your house, you must have a food supply in there
could you hold off 200+ hungry looters attacking en masse
and then there's the mentality, if the looters can't have, then no one gets it
have you got a plan for firebombs thru your windows ?

i'm a believer in " defense thru mobility "
and over the last 2+ years i've made 40+ caches ( mostly 5 gal pails ) in the surrounding countryside

if TSHTF is severe enough, i do expect a big dieoff in the first 2 months
and a mega-quick dieoff if TSHTF hits over winter

Here is my answer, In my element, house won't burn, and If it got that bad,
I would have a few come live here.

2010:

I live out in the hills on a very seldom used dead end (sorta) road. I don't really see to many coming this far to loot.

and if a few come, they will probably be shot by my neighbors before they even get to where we are.

If things are bad down the hill...I plan to do my best to NOT draw attention to this house :-\

Does that guy run a supplies shop or something? Thats an awful lot of haul gear. I've been putting together a BoB with some basics based on Canterbury's $50 survival pack. Cost a bit more down here but I'm nearly done with it. Where I am bugging out to? I don't know to be honest. I'm figuring I can manage to pack a few days water and food. Some shelter making gear and some food catching gear. Basic medical etc. If you're having to move it's no 5 star holiday so you'd better be able to rough it from day one. Cache's would be handy but I don't know where you could set them up around these parts. I think I need to scout a bit further out. Lot of rock around my city so need to get out over the ranges.
