I put one of these on order before the price increase this week.
I have 4 weeks to decide if I want it.

The one ounce has sold amazingly well and should be sold out soon.
The thing that kind of pushed me over is that CNI raised their price for proof eagles by $100 this week to $1,900...and while they are available from the mint?
First 4 days sales

That one should take you over the Styx, if your relatives 'remember' to put it in your mouth...

If you are thinking about getting a one ounce eagle, maybe you should put an order in and decide in a few weeks if you want it or not.
The backorder date keeps getting pushed back. They must be selling a lot this week? A $50 price bump comes on Wed.

Looks like 5,805 one ounce singles left.
19,195 sold http://news.coinupdate.com/us-mint-sales-gold-coins-in-decline-0502/
With no input here, I assume most think these are a bad buy?
You are upside down $85 at the time of buy...will they appreciate?

Probably not a bad buy, but you get less gold for your money, compared with buying a less purdy coin. As for myself I don't understand paying numismatic premiums for bullion, but many do, so why not. In a year or so spot price will be above 1800 so you can't go wrong with it, whether you will get back the premium you bought it for I have no idea...

So far premiums are rising with spot and even outpacing it disproportionately with the Perth mint "numismatic bullion". The Britannia is another fine contender for the collector.
I expect that if we have an all out rush to the melt bins ala 1980 you can forget the premiums but as long we are just riding a volatile bull market my interest has been leaning more towards collecting things of beauty instead of just the most ounces for the dollar.

One ounce proofs (singles) gone in three weeks. Not bad.
