Quick question. I've noticed a number of avatars have a lime-peel helmet. What is the meaning of this? Just curious. ???

It's a long running inside joke. Let's see if I can break it down for you: a somewhat infamous member of GSUS and the old GIM named hypertiger has a tiger with a crown and a jewel for an avatar. GSUS member Book, mimicking hypertiger in his typical sardonic fashion, created an avatar of a kitty cat with a lime peel hat, and called him hyperkitty. GSUS member Mamboni, in a bout of friendly lampooning, photoshopped the lime helmet onto his own avatar. From there, the fad grew and many members put the lime helmet on their avatars. Many have since reverted to their previous or an alternate avatar (Book included), but some of us have either been too lazy to do so, or still like the lime helmet.

Ah I get it. It's like at ZeroHedge the thing is: "Gold Bitchez!" from poster Chumbawumba (who I haven't seen in ages).

Can you provide an example of Gold Bitchez?

Also, does Zerohedge know anything about the boating accident meme the predates this forum?

It was started about a year ago by "Chumbawumba". He coined the term, and then people started using it at ZeroHedge - usually every time there is a "gold" related news item. If you are a regular reader of the site and read the comments section, you will often time see people using that phrase. :)

The helmets are also necessary if you want to win a forum debate or have a chance of surviving thunderdome...

Hahahahaha.......

Thanks for mentioning that because now I know to avoid the Thunderdome and to avoid debating anybody on the forum. :D The melon helmet did not feel like a comfortable fit for my DOG avatar so as a result, I stopped wearing it.

I think the "jewel in the crown" involved the online status button as well.
I think Book's trigger for the idea was wondering what the legion of blue or green dot members was about.
Well that was when I at least first was triggered to wonder and learn about the green dots. ;D

there is a classic image of a kitten with a lime on its head. probably been around the Internet a few years.

someone used that as their avatar, and then everybody put the lime helmet on.

I think there was a fake Hypertiger on here in the beginning. The HT from GIM1 always invited controversy but felt compelled to read on.

There is a poster on Collectors Universe that has the exact same lime kitten avatar as the one that you posted. 8)
