China controls 93-97% of rare earth metals. However no export quotas on finished products being exported. Very shrewd move by the Chinese.

Maybe this could be beneficial to the US because it'll reduce a resource dependency on China.

Or, at worst, it could lead to another future military "liberation" and "rebuilding".

i never believe these stories. china is maybe the #1 exporter of these metals, but i have to believe somewhere in nevada, utah, etc. there is some secret US stockpile + mine of this stuff. i have a hard time believing it **only** exists in china.

I would think that since Russia has such a vast and diverse land mass that they'd be sitting on some as well.

I think Greenland has found reserves and also America has found deposits with the chance of much more here in the states.

Your instincts serve you well, young Chad!

Yes, the US was the leading miner/producer of rare earth metals in the 1980s. We mothballed those operations and China picked up the gauntlet. It will take years for America to reopen those mines and recommence production, assuming the environazis haven't made it impossible for them to operate.

We will be lobbing some plutonium at them soon over this.
