View Full Version : The U.S. Public Is About To Revolt

Albert Edwards of Societe Generale thinks U.S. citizens are on the brink of a political revolt, based on a declining standard of living brought on by an inefficient economic relationship with China.
Here's why, according to Edwards:
This would happen in any nation where a vision of prosperity has been shown to be a Ponzi sham, engineered by the authorities to help disguise the fact that the rich have been getting a whole lot richer.
What Edwards sees is the depressed state of the U.S. citizen getting worse. He sees unemployment rising and another recession near.
From Albert Edwards:
The latest US poverty data is staggering. Some 42 million Americans were in receipt of food stamps in July, up some 18% yoy (see chart below). Make no mistake, the government isn't throwing money at people willy-nilly those in receipt of stamps are on the poverty line, currently defined as a 2 adult and 2 children household having a net income of $22,056 p.a. (£14,000, 16,000)
The staggering food stamp chart Edwards mentions:
Image: Societe Generale
So how are the two linked? China continues to amass more reserves and experience an advantageous exchange rate with the U.S. The country is "hooked on" an investment led economy, and is now only making small moves, like trying to grow consumer spending, to counter, according to Edwards.
China just isn't moving fast enough for the U.S. public.
Edwards is confident what is next for the U.S. is an even more inflamed populace that targets tariff actions against China in a spiraling upwards of the current currency war.

This be hilarious...
There will be a political revolt by 40 mil on food stamps because they realize that a trade imbalance with China is the root cause of their woes?
LOL.
Methinks this author misunderestimates the cognitive capabilities, political awareness, and economic understanding of the general public.
This would happen in any nation where a vision of prosperity has been shown to be a Ponzi sham, engineered by the authorities to help disguise the fact that the rich have been getting a whole lot richer.
While this statement is true, I have very little (i.e. ZERO) confidence that the masses can ever get their minds off of football, cheap beer and braindead TV shows long enough to even consider the topic.

I think most "people" would sit down and starve to death waiting for the FEMA trucks before lifting a finger or planting a garden to help themselves.

Although I think the statistic that 42 million useless people are on food stamps is true I disagree that they are living in poverty. In fact I bet a good majority of them are gaming the system, hiding income, etc.

Look at Haiti. That is what our inner cities would be like if the producers quit producing to support the nonproducers. Grow a garden in Haiti? Not likely. When thugs take what you have, there is no reward for investing in the future.

Perhaps the revolt comes when the U.S. skips, or is late on its allotted food bill one month due to some system glitch, or accounting error?
The banking owners want a revolt to cover their tracks & now they have the perfect mechanism & bad broken gov. to pull trigger with.

Not paying federal reserve note denominated debt (mortgages, credit cards, taxes towards, etc.) would go a long way to being able to afford food for many.

That sounds like the most likely sort of revolt we will have. I'm sure the script for it's use has already been written and it might be used one day if needed.

If you take away the U.S. masses' comfort zone, then there MIGHT be some action taken. Taking away TV, internet, junk food, etc would be one way to possibly get the U.S. masses mad enough to take some sort of action. The gov't has to make the U.S. masses uncomfortable to the point where they will take action and even if the U.S. masses decide to do something about, it would be for the wrong reasons. The wrong reasons being TV, intenet, and junk food and once that is restored, then the U.S. sheeple will just fall back to sleep IMO.
The gov't has to keep programs such as food stamps, SS, other gov't welfare going to keep the majority of the U.S. masses "quiet" and "sleeping". In other words, why would the U.S. masses want to take any kind of action if they are still able to watch TV, still have internet access, and the gov't is still providing food stamp funds and unemployment benefits?
If a "revolt" interferes with "Dancing with the Stars", then the U.S. sheeple will NOT revolt against the gov't.

The...'revolt'...begins in earnest when the dollar collapses.
And at that time you will have as much to fear from the 'average U.S. citizen' as you would from a zombie plague.

Another american revolution? That's too funny. Nobody will revolt now that socialism and communism have been made the one and only mainstream way of life. Have someone talk about revolution in front of angry people's noses and they might nod in agreement once or twice, but it'll all be forgotten when they receive their next stimulus checks.

Thanks Brewtech :). When I wrote this, I was speaking as an average normal sheeple person because I am an average normal sheeple person. If a sheeple person is living in relative comfort with a roof under their head, food on their table, TV and internet access, and a job to go to, then why revolt against the gov't? Revolting against the gov't is too risky and it takes the sheeple out of their comfort zone.
The U.S. gov't is going to do everything in their power to keep the U.S. sheeple people asleep as long as possible while they continue to destroy the U.S. $ and the U.S. economy with its policies, money printing, and the bloated gov't programs.

the biggest threat ever to the united states was the invention of cable television. nothing has been more destructive to the well being of the country, ever. not communism, not fascism, not socialism, not banking, not anything. all the others continue to thrive or have thrived because of cable television. before it, people would stomp out the snake. might take awhile, but they did it. now, people let the snake bite at their ankles daily.

That is a very good point. Every fast food joint will be hit since this is a society of people that does not grow or cook their own food. We (as a society) are so dependent on fast food and eating out, that if all of the fast food joints got shut down, then that will be a lot of very hungry people with empty kitchen cabinets getting very desperate to eat. That will get very ugly very quickly.

Ah crap... I really liked that video. I watched it twice in fact. Dammit! Is that bad?
I found the short-haired chicky in it quite fascinating, and I like her voice. The locale it was filmed in supported the culture of the song, and I didn't feel like THAT culture was forcing its way into mine, just being what it was and that's all...
