I'm looking for the thread where someone posted some links to homes in North Dakota. Or maybe it was in South Dakota.

What was notable about them is that they were nice and they were in the range $20K to $30K.

I can't find the thread though.

Does anyone know ?

Thanks !

I think those prices are low, unless you are talking about flood plain/scrub land though.

Make sure you don't buy any flood plain land. That Platt likes to flood.

Can you guess the real $20,000 home... and one advertised on TV for $20,000?

The thing is you'd have to worry about surviving the winters and you'd have to take care of your own sh*t, literally (septic tanks). I may be wrong on that, but I've never lived outside of the city so couldn't understand otherwise.

If anyone wants to move there PM me, I want to leave CA in a year once I finish college and would love a patriot roommate.

Well NordicBerserker introduced the concept and I asked him about it, but found information on it soon after. NordicBerserker provided these links as examples:

You head on up there and take a close look at those homes. I can practically guarantee you they are shit on a shingle. We did that whole routine when we removed ourselves from CA and you are generally looking at a lot more. The pics on the internets are nice, but when you meet the girl in person, it's not quite like the picture.

Carry on....I would get the place with 10 or 20 acres and a couple broken outbuildings and a completely screwed house if you had the money and time to fix it. But money and time are funny things, especially out in the sticks.

If you head to the left 1 block, South West direction, then look to the South East you'll see some kind of factory or silo facility.

These deals are out there in small towns that are slowly dying. In the last few years I've heard of houses that were auctioned off only getting bids of 10 to 20 thousand. There are no jobs in these areas and it may be a 100 miles to a low paying one.

That's the first thing I thought of....it may be a great deal...but what the hell are you going to do in Rugby ND?

North Dakota is painfully cold. When driving through it in December the cold came up from the floorboard and made my leg numb. The heater was going full blast but blowing cold air. Unbelievably cold. Maybe buy an igloo for $20k...lol.

There are several REO sites that have houses listed all over the nation for 1k and up - quite the selection in the 5-20k ranges.

As a real estate investor I can guarantee they aren't. When you have a population that is 95% White it's amazing how well houses can be maintained for many years, contrast this of course with black areas such as detroit or the ghetto or any place blacks congregate in number, Africa of course being the biggest example.

I couldn't care less if people don't buy in the area, cheaper prices for me.

Someone mentioned them being barren wasteland and again if you don't know the area then you have no clue. I'm not selling anything at the moment so I have no reason to talk you into buying anything do your own homework and buy up there, or don't and let me.

That's exactly right if you have money there are opportunities everywhere, being in a volatile market means more work, more research you can't just sit back and watch your blue chips double every 5-10 years but the deals do abound they just take more work IMO.

He's right... any white neighborhood home has upgraded appliances, newer roofs and all copper plumbing, jobs a-plenty, well maintained and manicured landscapes...

If you got a job there it would take no time to get to work. I was kind of hoping it was a Brewery but that's just me. ;) Although walking home could take a little longer if that were the case.
