A gunman is barricaded inside Palm Bay Hospital, and police and the SWAT team have surrounded the building on Malabar Road.

Shots were fired about 2:20 p.m., but nobody has been hurt, authorities said. Crisis negotiators are on their way.

The hospital has not been evacuated, police spokeswoman Yvonne Martinez said. The gunman is in a room near the cafeteria by himself, so patients and employees aren't in danger, a hospital spokesman said.

Law officers are trying to determine who the gunman is.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area around the hospital, which is being cordoned off.
