View Full Version : My bank is getting desperate...

I have a bank account at Wells Fargo. It is a free checking account that I opened about 15 years ago. My average balance is somewhere around $0.07, which I keep there to make sure the account stays open.
I only use the account for 3 things: I use it for debit card purchases when I order things online, in which case I make a cash deposit, then almost immediately make the debit card purchase to transfer the funds. I use it to pay my car insurance, because my insurance company gives a "credit card" discount... bozos. Finally, I have a Netflix account that is automatically billed around $18 every month automatically. Again, at the time the Car Insurance and Netflix amounts are almost due, I deposit cash and wait for the transaction to clean the account out again.
I've noticed something funny lately when checking my account balance online - they will post transactions as "pending", then the next day the transaction will COMPLETELY DISAPPEAR, sometimes for 2 or 3 days... making my "apparent" balance look higher than I know it actually is. I've thought this through, and this is my conclusion:
They are trying to fool me into believing that I have more money in the bank than I actually do, so I'll go spend it, and go into overdraft. Their fees for overdraft are quite high ($35 per overdraft transaction), so they have a financial incentive to try and get me to overdraft... which up to this point I have NEVER done due to my diligence and careful use of the account.
Bastards. They must be getting desperate for income! ;D

I received an odd letter from some company claiming to audit my bank. It asked if the balance from a month ago was correct and if it was correct, not to reply.

Noticed the same thing through my Cr card, balance was around a hundred so I said ok, next day I went to get gas and was declined. Checked online and overdrafted by 12 bux. New laws give me 15 days to fix it but man I know what your saying. Fedex sucks ass too. tag it biatch!

I just blasted a credit card company, got my $35 back,
then I just blasted them again, threatening to close my
account, I got another $35 back, I sh*t u not .
They sent me a letter saying, " we do not know you ",
so I called them threatening to close my account,
brought up the recent past problems, etc, they know
more about me than I know, who the f knows what is
on my credit report, they have instant access, I don't.
Seems they want my business.
I use 2 big cards for purchasing, always have high balance.
Quite frankly companies are taking hits on fees, but encourage
you to use your cards, they want the money pronto.
This is a trend, going after people, some home bills have
been mistakes too, even my neighbor had same issues,
I notice more people mentioning this, this is deliberate I
believe. It ain't just banks and credit card companies
skinning the consumers.
I have a big story too about JPMChase and wires,
they make the mistakes, you pay the big fees, and
there is practically nothing you can do , even my
bank gave up. They burned me good in 2008.
Every single dollar that passes through the USA
goes through JPMChase as clearing operation ,
not surprising since they are FED , owned by Rocks,
controlling and working with intell agencies, but the
fees, rip offs. And their mistakes, T's and I's ain't
dotted and money comes back sans fees. Funny
there was no problems before for years then all of
the sudden in 2008, bam, wtf ? What changed ?
Aug 2008 they raped me for $200.

Nickel and diming people works, it's good for business.
They build reputations based on trust for long term business,
committed to their customers.
All the proof you need that an Oligarchy Monopoly and collusion are at play.
Where u gonna go, everyone is skinning you.
Last move I made was get rid of cable, boy do I miss CNN. lol
They were doing the same crap with bills. Good bye. Now the junk mail
from them starts again. Same thing with cell company, switched
and saved big money too, no hasle, virginmobile rules.

Not long ago one of the big banks sent me a replacement debit card that was the spitting image of their credit card -- the only difference being the barely discernible word "debit" in a small font on the front. Naturally it wasn't long before I grabbed that for a purchase instead of the credit card I was intending to use: and got hit with an overdraft protection charge.
I don't doubt for a minute that this was carefully planned on their part -- with the guy who came up with the idea getting a nice bonus on all the millions they racked in on the "look-alike card caper".

Also making it appear to FDIC that the bank has more "on deposit" then there is.

That is interesting. I've had a couple friends recently who got behind on their mortgages because they thought they had much higher balances than they actually did. I'll bet it was the same thing.

They will ALWAYS find a way to screw you! Always have and always will. I finally got sick and tired of taking their shit and closed both my accounts, then switched to money orders and a pre-paid CC for bills and online biz, MO's are .89 and the CC is $6 a month. I know where every cent is and is accounted for, they bent me over for the last time.

I have a bank checking account and I use mine for paycheck direct deposit and to pay most of my bills online as well as purchase stuff online from ebay another other online places. When I use my debit card to pay a bill online or to buy something online, it will show up as a "pending" transaction when I check my checking balance online. It will stay as pending for 1 day (2 days at the most) and after that it will show up as cleared on my checking account balance. It never "disappears" but it stays "pending" until it "clears". I guess each bank is different as to how to treat pending transactions. I did notice, however, that they are adding fees to my checking account. My bank now charges a $2.00/month "check imaging fee". In the past, they never did that.

That's how my account USED TO WORK... it's only in the last few months that something has changed and the "disappearing act" has kicked in. Now, it seems like it's almost every transaction that has a temporary vanishing between the pending and posted status. Sometimes it's just a day, but I've seen it as long as 3 days before it re-appears as a posted transaction. They must have put quite a bit of time and effort into getting the software "just right" to fvck with their customers like that! :o

My wife has a car loan (which I will have payed off in 10 mths or less if I decide to sell some silver). I go in once a month to pay it cash, and in the summer we pre-paid 4 mths ahead, since we were not going to be in Turkey. Now last time I went in to the bank a couple of days early to pay the loan, and they refused to take the payment, telling me I could only pay it on the 15th when the loan is due... I am pretty certain they have done this change in their rules, so that they can slap a late fee on people who can not go in and pay the balance on their designated day. Here in Turkey it is still quite common that people pay their bills in cash at the bank. The bank we have our car loan at is Forties...

I mimic Gaillo in my use of my bank, I put enough in to cover certain items only, the non used balance is usually $2-5. I also noticed disappearing acts with my acct. Its a PNC acct.Up until April it was National City, who BTW, I never noticed any weird activity with.

AND GO WITH A LOCAL CREDIT UNION ... that won't try to screw you over as much!
Sheesh, I thought everyone knew we should be taking our money out of these corrupt-o-crat banks by now!

oh they try to push the debit card on me too. and then they ask why i don't use it since its so much easier to use and you (and them) can track every purchase >:(
The other day I went into Hells Fargo to pay my business credit card off because someone had taken my card and was buying bras online in England!!! Anyway, the teller asked for my debit card, I told her I did not have one nor DO I WANT ONE.
