View Full Version : Observation at coin shop today

I took in some silver to sell today and ended up spending almost 2 hours there.

Place was packed and owner had to run to bank. I hung out and people watched.

Several phone calls. Everyone asking if they had silver.

They answered, "We have 2008 SAE's"...(they were the ones I sold them 2 days ago).

Only silver they had besides some junk silver and a handful of graded SAE's.

The people walking in all asked about silver. Most were small time buyers buying junk silver or the SAE's.

No one asked about gold. I figured gold is too pricey for the average Joe so thats probably why.

They paid me spot plus $1.25 for the SAE's. It was a good flip for me.

In that time I was the only one selling silver and one other person was selling some foreign coins.

Their jewelry buying window always had a line of 2 or 3 waiting to sell. That was booming.

Pretty interesting...

$1.25 over spot, that's a very good price from a dealer.
I don't know what my dealer pays because I don't sell, but I'm sure it wouldn't be that high.

Apparently all the customers who bought silver on Nov 9 are back at the dealer selling it today. :oo-->

That's such a contrast from what I saw at a local coin shop like two days ago. The place was totally empty, I was the only customer during the 10-15 minute window that I was there. He had no gold at all, and no silver bullion at all (no bars, rounds, no junk silver either!). His displays were nothing but numismatic items: slabbed coins, modern mint sets, etc. This was the first time I've seen a coin shop without a single piece of bullion in it. It made me realize how hard it will be to find physical in the future.

Given today's silver price action, I've decided to put a few of my green monster boxes out to the curb to make room for my cases of canned spam. :oo-->

Garbage man just came by and tried to pick up a green monster box: "Jeez, what the hell is in here?!?!?" as he dropped it and grabbed his lower back in pain. I said 'silver bullion!' The guy screams back at me: "Dammit! Call the recyclers then...we don't do that sh*t! Yoy should know better idiot!' and drives off in a huff. :oo--> :oo--> :oo-->

Hey Mamboni, if you are trying to get rid of that green monster box full of silver, then you can just give it to me since everybody thinks that the silver is garbage. I like collecting white and shiny garbage. ;D

Im glad I took profits when I did...I believe its going to fall back down for a while...then time to buy back in.

The dealer I went to also pays cash. No names asked for.

I know it's hard to swallow such a beat down but we haven't even come close to the 50 DMA yet
and we are still up over 7% in the last 30 days.... the Bull is still raging even though many riders have been throw off
lately.

i visited these guys today. they have a big basket full of silver art bars.

/\ closest picture i could find.

their price for a 1/10 Gold Eagle is $160 - $137 spot + $23 mark-up. seemed a little bit high.

nice big store though. not shy about showing their inventory. they had their circulated silver all sorted out, baskets with dimes, standing liberty quarters, etc.

I wish that dealer was close to where I live. I would have definitely checked out their big basket of silver art bars.
