He never states how much energy it uses in the process.

Spec sheet, no? http://www.flixxy.com/plastic-to-oil-brochure.pdf
Thanks.

It says 1kW/ h, for the small converter and up to 6.3kW/ h for the big one.

It takes about 0.0273 gallons of gasoline to produce 1kW / h of power.

So I guess if it can produce at a rate greater than 0.0273 per 1kW / h, then it would be in the money.

It would seem to me that the vast amount of plastic out there is PET. Its difficult to understand the specs but it looks like the basic unit does about 1Kg per 3 hours with 80% recovery rate @ 1kW per hour. The material needs to be pre processed. It says "crushed" but that could mean shredded so there is another input there. Yes in the video it needs to be shredded.

It's basically a still. If you set up the separation/recycling systems this is an excellent idea. Great for the islands like the carribean, I can see it being a boon for places like philipines where they already have people pulling this stuff out of the dumps. It would add another option for the recycle scavengers.

He destroys his own credibility by talking about CO2 emissions as if they are bad.

Just because he doesn't know about the conspiracy doesn't mean that his credibility is destroyed.

Everyone has to learn some time. Even the greatest and most knowledgable have room to learn.

I knew that CO2 was plant food in 7th grade. What "scientist" needs time to learn this???

Sure, OK. I did too.
Bck then we were not being inculcated with this whole global warming bullshit. I know adults that learned the same things we did in school, but somehow they still believe the Al Gore hype.

Just sayin.

Does anyone know what the mechanism is for this conversion of plastic to oil? Just heating the various plastics and styrene will produce some volatile organics- some toxic.... but the end result will mostly be carbonized plastic.... or carbon. I don't believe you can form a benzen ring by heating a polymer. There has to be more to this than consensing volatile organics through water.

Yes- plastics are a great source for carbon based molecules. A fried egg is also a great source for proteins found in an egg. You cannot turn a fried egg into a fresh egg.

The video shows a guy throwing assorted plastics & styrene into the hopper. Then he says it is heated. Any idea how many kinds of toxins, pigments, plasticizers, fire retardents, etc are in these? For someone who does not know much about CO2, I would be VERY skeptical about his organic chemistry knowledge.

I looked at 14 pages of Google links and they all seem to praise this guy with the same verbiage regurgitated a million different ways. I did not see any information on technology or that this is even a "machine". A still is NOT a machine.

Am I the only one skeptical? Everyone says it is safe. Huh? I give it 3 more months before we hear about an explosion from one of these. I would like to see an independent scientific report with some REAL values.

Why not contact the company directly and ask them your questions?
