Most 9/11 responders settle suits over WTC dust


NEW YORK – More than 10,000 people have joined a legal settlement that will pay hundreds of millions of dollars to ground zero workers exposed to toxic World Trade Center dust.

The near-universal acceptance of the deal was announced by a court Friday.

It will mean an end to most litigation over New York City's failure to provide protective equipment to construction workers, police and firefighters who cleared rubble.

Only around 500 of the thousands who sued the city over the cleanup declined to take the offer.

At least 95 percent had to sign on to make the deal effective. It just cleared that hurdle, with 95.1 percent.

The settlement will provide at least $625 million. Related deals could boost that total to more than $725 million.

Right! And I for one have not heard one mention of the asbestos exposure which was MASSIVE. Yet if a school kid in a 100 year old grade school walks by a pipe insulated with asbestos and a 2 mm tear in the lining, it is a huge scandal! Hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers and New Jersians were exposed to asbestos on 9-11 and we are starting to now see a predictable explosion in regional rates of chronic lung disease and cancer. This is only going to get worse.

New York, New York - American Home Assurance, the company that issued a general liability policy to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey in 1966 at the start of the construction of the Twin Towers, has filed a claim in New York County Court saying they have no obligation to defend or indemnify any further asbestos claims from the site, due to the fact that the policy issued has a limit of $10 million per occurrence, a number that has already been reached.

..."...To date, American Home has paid in excess of $10 million to indemnify insureds in response to World Trade Center asbestos claims. Its obligations, if any, are exhausted and no coverage is available under the policy for pending WTC asbestos claims.”

A representative for the insurance company notes that since the attacks, they have been subject to thousands of personal-injury claims arising from asbestos exposure. Also named as defendants in many of the claims were Alcoa Company, DiBono Plastering Company, the Port Authority, and Tishman Realty and Construction Company. The latter was the construction manager for the project.

...American Home Assurance has announced that it is capping payouts for WTC-demolition asbestos claims at a measly $10 million.

The announcement underlines just how much cheaper it is to demolish asbestos-laden skyscrapers without a permit, than to follow legal procedures.

Larry Silverstein, a reputed illicit-sex-industry mobster, purchased the World Trade Center in 2001, shortly after the New York Port Authority lost an asbestos lawsuit and was ordered to remove all asbestos from the Twin Towers. Cost estimates for that asbestos removal ranged from the low billions to the tens of billions – far more than the outdated, half-empty buildings were worth. (The City of New York had been desperately seeking a way to demolish the Towers since around 1990, but was prevented from doing so by asbestos issues.)

Silverstein would have gone bankrupt within a few years at most had the Towers not been illegally demolished on September 11th, 2001. Thanks to that illegal demolition, Silverstein – who had doubled the WTC’s terrorism insurance and changed it to cash payout when he finalized his purchase in July, 2001 – walked off with a 5 billion dollar cash return on his 100 million dollar investment. When last sighted, Silverstein was back in court asking for another 11 billion dollars from airline insurers.

Silverstein is notorious for confessing on national television to the illegal demolition of World Trade Center Building 7.

During a recent interview former intelligence community insider and current Veterans Today Editor Gordon Duff stated that the crimes of 9/11 were conceived in New York City, by people linked to organized crime and the Israeli Mossad, as an illegal demolition project, and subsequently sold to corrupt elements of the Bush Administration, the intelligence community, and the military (especially the Armageddonite wing of the US Air Force). Duff added that many of those with direct knowledge of the crimes have come forward, and suggested that non-complicit insiders are working to bring the perpetrators to justice by any available means.
