Unlike her older sister, our youngest daughter absolutely loves vegetables; especially carrots. So, we make sure to keep them stocked in our pantry.

A few days ago, my wife did some grocery shopping and came home with several cans of Great Value vegetables. This included a can or two of Great Value's sliced carrots. Since I wanted to make sure she had a healthy
dinner last night, I ended up making a can of these for her (despite the fact my wife and I were having pizza).

Because this was a cheaper brand, I wasn't really expecting too much from them. But, I have to say they were much better than expected.The first thing I noticed about this brand was the fact there wasn't much water inside the can. I usually drain canned vegetables prior to cooking them (unless I am making them on the stove) and there wasn't much that needed to be drained. As I started suspecting, this meant there were more carrots inside the can than with several other brands and, even with me helping her eat them (I like carrots too), there were plenty leftover. I think there would even have been leftovers if my wife would have had a serving or two.

I was also impressed with the size of the slices. I have purchased a few brands that have slices that aren't any bigger than what you would expect from diced carrots. But, the Great Value brand offered slices that were large enough for me to have to cut them two or three times so my daughter didn't choke on them (I honestly probably didn't need to do that now that she has teeth, but it'll take me a while to break that habit).

Taste wise, the carrots were about average. They weren't bad but there wasn't anything special about them. However, I'm more than OK with that considering they were a cheaper brand (I only expect more from brands when they are more expensive).

I agree, carrots are worth their weight in gold but NOT at the expense of all the other superlative veggies in the Great Value brand! Carrots may be golden but Okra must be copper... and beans? are they not golden too? What about taters?? Surely they are silver??

You besmirch the honorable Great Value brand by negating ALL of its products that are brothers and sisters of the same GMO/GV family as GV carrots. The pickled beets ain't bad either ;D The rest of the GV family feels like it has been slapped in the face! For what!? carrots? I never thought I'd see the day :-[ Beans trumped by carrots.
