It doesn't sound too difficult. But if it's so easy then why hasn't Japan already implemented it? They are surrounded by the ocean and import most of their energy.

Being surrounded by China now also.

Uses an old principle from Refridgerators. Early refridgerator design used amonia as the "refridgerant".

More like a water version of geothermal heat pumps. But one with net positive output. Now what about the environmental costs? Gumbooting here but perhaps reducing the ocean's thermocline will support more natural mixing and put more nutrients near the surface where they can be used (with sunlight) for biosystem growth. And help cool down the surface of the earth. Long term bad news for places warmed buy the ocean now (such as the Pacific North West and Europe).

Perhaps only net energy positive in a few unique spots with tropical surface temperatures yet a not too deep cold undercurrent. Probably why specific places were mentioned in the PR video.

And lets see if like so many other ocean energy projects, if it is not destroyed by the first storm season. 8)

The sea snakes that bend with the waves and generate energy seem pretty clever.

Somehow I kinda doubt Lockheed Martin is involved in this to supply "free" energy to the world. :D
