This is his first day at training. He seems to have natural ability and drive, plus he's having fun. The goal is to give him the best opportunity to be the best dog he can be. The biggest hurtle is that I'm a complete noob to schutzhund training, and he doesn't have food drive, which can be overcomed.

He's only 10 months old, and it's a 1 out of 15 that a trainer puts a sleeve on during a dogs first time out.

BTW - I REALLY HAVE TO THANK Midnight Rambler/Sukhoi Fan. I got the puppy from his litter, which are Avatar dogs. And as an Avatar puppy that's huge, not to mention I might be the only owner of a live MALE Avatar puppy. The more I get into this the more I learn.

Are you going to teach him to attack certain body parts with one word commands?

I had a buddy in college that had a Great Dane, probably stood 6'-6 on its hind legs (above me anyways) that was trained that way.

Actually, schutzhund is a sport. You're training a dog to be a perfect police dog, while being under YOUR control. It's about tracking, obedience and protection. What the video is about is to demonstrate Enzo's first time working with the tug. He's a 10 month old doberman. Basically a teenager, with absolutely NO direction, other than the good home I've given him.

As far as teaching a dog to attack "certain" body parts with a command I think that might be a legend of some sort. I know the French teach snapping knee caps. As I'm typing this, I just came back from walking my shepard, Indy, I didn't take Enzo because he's a psychopath on the leash. I could hear him crying for over a 1/4 mile away during the walk with my Indy, who's an awesome dog and was happy to be rid of him . Here's the interesting part, once I came home with Indy, he was acting like HE did something bad, and that's why he wasn't on the walk. This is why I respect dog trainers, they understand the dog psychy. The son of bitch has been licking my face since I got home saying, "I love you, I love you, what did I do wrong, I won't do it again".

He's going to be a champion, and he's going to do it on his own.

Good luck with your dog. Do you have any contact with Sukhoi Fan? Houston are we reaching? If so, see if he would be interested in posting here. Thanks.

No, the dog was trained to attack areas at one word commands.
The owner and another guy were horsing around and he spoke the word (accidentally), the dog freaked and went for the arm.
I will add that I don't think I would want to mess with your dog at all. ;D

What is an Avatar puppy General. Never heard of this before.

You're a lucky guy GoD regarding Enzo. Shaping up to be one excellent animal. I vividly recall your past threads, when you got Enzo and when the other passed.

Some random info on the Doberman:

http://www.k9pups.com/site/657261/page/356753

Herr Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann was born on February 2, 1823 in Thuringia, Germany. Herr Dobermann worked as a dog catcher and tax collector by day and a police officer at night. He wanted a companion dog for security and protection that was large, agile, intelligent, loyal, and fearless. He wanted what in his mind did not exist in Germany at that time.

In 1880, Herr Dobermann began his breeding program with Thuringian Shepherds, early Rottweilers and German Shepherds. He visited many dog shows and breeding kennels to find the particular characteristics he wanted for his foundation stock. German Pinschers, Black and Tan Terriers, Weimaraners, Greyhounds, and the German Shorthair Pointers all contributed to his early breed stock.

A tax collector is the guy who started it all with this breed. I find that funny :)

Avatar is a male doberman that I think died like 10+ years ago, Enzo's mom was fertilized by invetro. ;)
