The English language has become corrupt over the ages. Actually in law there are only two forms of alien: friendly and enemy. Friendlies are left alone. Enemies (with a declared war of course) can be captured or shot. Uninformed people have added a third variety: illegal. The presumption here is that they have done some criminal act and are to be discriminated against in some way.

I like the old view better. Everyone you are likely to meet is going to be an alien. Treat them properly else they carry a Smith and Wesson.
