View Full Version : Convert your airline miles

I got a letter about not losing airline miles.... and you can get free magazines with them. Well, the magazines were crap so I figured I would look at what is available at the airline website. I got a set of Celestron 8x42 binoculars... will probably get another. Sure beats crummy magazines.
The way things are looking, the turmoil can hit any time. It would probably be good to cash in any chips like this now. If you have unused mileage points or credit card points..... check into what they are worth NOW. Each week that goes by will be a step closer to worthless dollars and defaults on many accounts. So dig out those old accounts and trade them in for some real asset values.
I have done the same with hotel points.

for those of us that live in canada, here's a little tip for you....
...if you have a stash of canadian tire money (lots of us do), you can take it into the store, put it on a gift card, and then use that gift card to purchase fuel @ their gas bar.
for some reason, they won't accept CT$ directly at the gas bar, but the gift card idea provides a loophole in this policy...
seemed worth mentioning...

canadian tire is a department/auto parts store, and they have their own "money" that is issued to customers as a bonus...spend $100, get like $1.50 in CT money, which can then be spent on anything in the store. this corporation also operates gas stations (they call them gas bars, this may be their own term for it) under the canadian tire name, (usually on the same property) and also issue CT$ on fuel purchases, but they don't allow the CT$ to be redeemed at the gas station (bar). by taking the CT$ into the store and spending it on a gift card, you are then able to redeem the amount in fuel, as the gift cards are redeemable in the gas bars...
note: since these "gas bars" are franchises, there may be some legal issue regarding the CT$ thing...
