that's actually the story of Oracle, too. Larry Ellison got contracts for database software from the 3 letter agencies - his first big contracts.

I don't think that is accurate however. I could be wrong, but I seem to recall that SQL was something that IBM in concert with others developed, but Oracle commercialized it for smaller and for non-IBM platforms. That it was written in C allowed for greater portability to more platforms.

Is Ellison a SLEAZOID of the first order? Yes.
