Gas here has dropped .05 here in the last couple of days (3.14 Reg), but they typically drop here a few pennies a week for a couple weeks. The Bam, they jack em back up to the point of being 10cents higher then they were before the drops.
Never seen this before as we are actually from the left coast and Nevada as of abt a yr or so. Out there its like penny movements both up and down. But here, Jeeez they jack it up 15-30 cents at a wrack.

I bought new tires for the truck today, and saved the old tires that had a third of tread still on them. I'll buy another set of tires next month too, probably mid grade AT's though. It's my new prep.
After this weekends snow dump, I noticed I was mostly pulling out locals instead of flatlanders. They all had bald tires and beat to shit cables and chains, and said they couldn't afford even used tires. I'm not sure rereleasing them into the wild was the smart thing to do, but if Officer Ponch happened by, they'd get a ticket for anything putting them deeper in the hole, and around here they give chickenshit tickets for no mudflaps and crap hanging from your rearview mirror.

Rising gas prices hit Mississippi the hardest
http://i2.cdn.turner.com/money/2011/03/09/news/economy/gas_prices_mississippi/chart_gas_income.top.jpg
Mississippi residents spend 13.2% of their income on gas, whereas New Yorkers spend less than 5%. Click the map for all state rates.
NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Hey California, stop whining about $4 gas. As gas prices have surged 13% over the last month, Mississippi is feeling the worst pain at the pump.
Sure, Californians pay some of the highest gas prices in the nation at $3.92 per gallon. But for economic reasons, the Magnolia State has it much worse, even with prices at $3.42.
Families in Mississippi are the lowest paid in the country, and yet they spend the highest portion of their income on gas, according to new data from the Oil Price Information Service.
"When you live in California or New York, where things are close by and there's public transit, that's great -- but we don't have those options here," said Hilary Hamblin, a Tupelo, Miss. resident who said her family typically spends about 10% of their monthly income on gas alone.
That's not uncommon in the state. Mississippi families earn a median household income of about $37,000 -- the lowest in the country -- but spend a whopping $402 per month, or 13.2% on gas.
In contrast, Californians earn a median of $59,000 per household, and spend about $380, or 7.8% of their income on gas each month.
CNN special report: Fueling America
The Mississippi economy is already grappling with high unemployment and low high school graduation rates -- which keep local incomes down. Add in a history of racial inequality, which still affects the economy -- and that makes Mississippi one of the poorest states, said Marianne Hill, senior economist with the Center for Policy Research in Jackson, Miss.
Rural populations are hypersensitive to rising gas prices, Hill said, not only because they usually have lower incomes, but because they drive longer distances to work, school and shopping.
"It has a big impact, and particularly hits a rural state like Mississippi hard because so many people have to commute," Hill said.
0:00 /1:12Whining about gas: an American fad
Tracy Lewis and her husband own a chain of auto body shops in Hattiesburg, Miss. and often spend more than $40 a day filling up the tank of their company van. But that's not all. Rising gas prices are also affecting the company bottom line in other ways.
"When gas prices go up so do our paint, materials and supplies," she said. "It's killing us and others around us from many angles."
Meanwhile, one of the richest states, New York, is the least affected by rising gas prices, even though its fuel is the fifth most expensive in the country. New Yorkers boast a median household income of $55,000 but spend only 5% -- or about $225 per month -- on gas, as many residents use public transit instead.

The old limit used to be $50 and when I pulled into a normal truck stop it was no problem because they'd leave the pump open but when filling the truck in some small town and having to use a regular gas station to get diesel it was a real pain to get 235 gallons of diesel in it because after $50 I had to swipe the card again and again, some stations would just hold the card but a few were assholes and would only let you use the card at the pump.
I was out in the middle of no where once and after running the credit card through for maybe the 6th time the CC company began denying the transaction because of some fraud software kicked in for too many card uses in a short time frame, had to call the company and jump through a bunch of hoops to get them to understand it was a legit purchase going on

Would be a good one, but most towns anymore have ordinances against riding horse through them accept for parades. Even in our more western towns around here. They are no fun any longer. Guys riding horses into bars used to be the big one, no more. It has been about 18-20 yrs ago they stopped it here. Irene may cause gas price spike as one refinery shuts down
http://i2.cdn.turner.com/money/2011/08/26/news/economy/hurricane-gas-prices/hurricane-map.top.jpg
NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Hurricane Irene headed up the East Coast Saturday, threatening the nearly 10% of the nation's refining capacity that lies in Philadelphia, New Jersey and Delaware.
Output for the refineries in the hurricane's path is over a million barrel per day, according to the Oil Price Information Service.
Late Saturday, ConocoPhillips (COP (http://money.cnn.com/quote/quote.html?symb=COP&source=story_quote_link), Fortune 500 (http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/fortune500/2011/snapshots/327.html?source=story_f500_link)) shut its Bayway refinery in Linden, N.J., according to the company's website. The refinery has a processing capacity of 238 million barrels per day of light, low sulfur, crude oil.
Currently, the company's Trainer refinery in Trainer, Pa., which can process 185 million barrels per day, remains open. ConocoPhillips is also preparing to shut down its East Coast Terminals.
Analysts say refineries may close for several days thanks to Hurricane Irene (http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2011/08/26/live-blog-irene-weakens-slightly/?hpt=hp_t1&iid=EL).
At PBF Energy refineries in Delaware and New Jersey, large ships have been sent to sea to avoid potential damage from crashing into docks, said Michael Gayda, the company's president.
On Saturday, Gayda said the refineries were running at "planned rates" and that the company had put workers on double shifts "just to be cautious."
Gas spending and prices by state (http://money.cnn.com/news/storysupplement/economy/gas_prices_by_state/?iid=EL)
Other pre-storm precautions include clearing away debris from drainage pipes and disassembling any construction equipment like cranes or scaffolding that could get blown down during the storm.
Gayda said no decision has been made yet as to whether the refineries will shut down or move into a "warm" mode. That mode is a partial shutdown. The company is monitoring the weather via weather services that tailor forecasts specifically to the refineries before making that decision.
"'We have a comprehensive emergency response plan in place," said Gayda.
Gasoline futures (http://money.cnn.com/data/commodities/?iid=C_MT_Commodities) traded in New York have already spiked, rising 10 cents a gallon last week, largely on fears there will be a disruption in output from the refineries, barge routes or pipelines serving the heavily populated eastern seaboard.
That, combined with heavy travel during the upcoming Labor Day weekend, could send prices at the pump up 15 to 20 cents over the next couple of weeks, said Stephen Schork, publisher of the industry newsletter the Schork Report.
"You'll probably see a temporary pop," said Schork. "It really all depends on how bad the disruptions are."
Refineries are generally built to withstand winds from a category 5 hurricane. But they often rely on outside electricity to refine oil, and even downed wires inside the plant can cause trouble for the operation.
Hurricane Irene barrels up the East Coast - CNN (http://www.cnn.com/2011/US/08/27/tropical.weather/index.html?iid=EL)
Irene is a Category 1 hurricane. Category 1 storms have sustained winds of 85 mph, with wind gusts of up to 105 mph. Winds of that speed are described as extremely dangerous and capable of causing extensive damage.
"The restoration of power supplies is crucial, and electricity disruptions are common after a hurricane," according to an American Petroleum Institute hurricane fact sheet (http://www.api.org/Newsroom/hurricane/upload/2011HurricaneSheet.pdf).
It's far better for refineries begin an orderly shut down of their facilities, which can take many hours, than deal with a sudden power outage that could lead to dangerous conditions, said Tom Kloza, chief oil analyst at the OPIS.
Kloza expects retail gas prices, which edged up to $3.604 a gallon Saturday from $3.592 on Friday, will keep rising as the spike in futures prices from last week works its way into the market.
But both he and Schork think that over the long run, gas prices should fall.
Schork noted that come mid-September the nation shifts to less expensive "winter gas," which doesn't need to be refined as much because the cooler air is less conducive to smog formation.
And Kloza noted that despite all the hype around the hurricane, the end result is that big storms tend to keep people off the road.
"Bottom line: Hurricanes are much more reliable demand destroyers than supply destroyers," he said. http://i.cdn.turner.com/money/images/bug.gif (http://money.cnn.com/2011/08/26/news/economy/hurricane-gas-prices/index.htm?source=cnn_bin&hpt=hp_bn3#TOP)

These regulations are designed to bankrupt small businesses and promote big corporations. I saw the handwriting on the wall back in 2007. Hence I sold my private dental practice at the end of '09. Senators warn new EPA rules would raise gas prices
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/01/13/senators-warn-new-epa-rules-would-raise-gas-prices/
Senators from both sides of the aisle are warning that looming EPA regulations on gasoline could impose billions of dollars in additional costs on the industry and end up adding up to 25 cents to every gallon of gas.
The senators, in a letter this week to EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson, urged the agency to back off the yet-to-be-released regulations. Though the EPA has not yet issued any proposal, they claimed the agency is planning to call for a new requirement to reduce the sulfur content in gasoline.
Citing the nearly $3.40-a-gallon average price of gas and the state of the economy, the senators said "now is not the time for new regulations that will raise the price of fuel even further."
They said it would be "expensive" for companies to meet the sulfur targets and cited a study that found it could add up to $17 billion in industry-wide, up-front expenses, in addition to another $13 billion in annual operating costs.
This could in turn add between 12 and 25 cents to an average gallon of gasoline "depending on the stringency of the proposed rule," they wrote.
"If the EPA does not proceed carefully with its regulations, the nationwide price of fuel could increase to the further detriment of consumers and businesses," the senators warned.
The lawmakers on the letter were: Sens. James Inhofe, R-Okla.; Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska; John Barrasso, R-Wyo.; Mary Landrieu, D-La.; David Vitter, R-La.; and Mark Begich, D-Alaska.
The EPA did not comment on the senators' complaints.
Asked Friday for a response to the concerns, the EPA said: "EPA is still in the process of developing the proposal."
An EPA official said publicly in November that the agency was developing the so-called "Tier 3" standards proposal during a House subcommittee hearing.
Margo Oge, director of the EPA's Office of Transportation and Air Quality, told lawmakers that the proposal would help the country meet its "clean air goals."
"Motor vehicles and their fuel are an important source of compounds that form air pollution," she said.
Oge said reducing sulfur in gasoline would make emission control technology more effective, and "the end result would be cleaner air."
If the EPA formally issues the proposal, it would probably take more than a year for the agency to review public comments and finalize any plan.
A Senate Republican aide said the authority to tighten the sulfur standards comes from the Clean Air Act but noted that EPA has the discretion to either impose the standards or not.
The current sulfur standard is 30 parts per million in gasoline -- that's down from a prior standard of 300 parts per million. The new proposal could bring the standard down to 10 parts per million, according to the senators who wrote to Jackson
The aide said there was a "bigger benefit" when the standard dropped from 300 to 30 parts per million. But squeezing that down to 10 parts per million, the aide said, might not offer as much bang for the buck.
"They're extraordinarily expensive relative to the last round of sulfur reductions," the aide told FoxNews.com.

Zakaria: Why oil prices will stay high
http://globalpublicsquare.blogs.cnn.com/2012/01/15/zakaria-why-oil-prices-will-stay-high/
Look closer at the Arab Spring. The only oil rich country that has been forced into regime change is Libya. Why? The Gulf states lavish subsidies and salary increases on their citizens. They've upped spending to record levels to suppress any popular discontent.
Russia now needs oil at $110 a barrel to manage its finances. For Iraq, the number is $100. Even Saudi Arabia now needs oil to trade around $80 a barrel just to balance its budgets. The numbers are also high for Algeria, Qatar, and Oman. Only a decade ago Saudi Arabia was able to balance its budget with oil prices averaging around $25 a barrel.

Very true. There was an interesting article on why war with iran was useless. if the US truly wanted to destroy iran, they would crash the price of oil below 60, which is how much it costs to run iran's social programs and infrastructure...but I imagine the US probably has a vested interest in keep oil prices high (to help suck up all that extra dollars they're printing).

I wonder if lavish is the right word. It's fairly evocative. Perhaps they just improved their standard of living? Rolled out more services, sewer systems, electricity, water, roads, schools, hospitals. All that stuff costs. These people have or are building what the US once had and they are accused of being lavish yet the US declines and they are told they must be more austere. I wonder if austere means the middle eastern standard of living before oil? American austerity is probably at less than 1% atm.
your right though. It's the reason why it will stay high and go higher. If America is not going to give anything of value for all that oil something will have to happen.

It was 3.67 a gal. for regular, 87 octane last Monday, and today it is $ 4.01, Diesel is 4.21 a gal.

Windsor area gas prices predicted to hit $1.47
FEBRUARY 29, 2012
WINDSOR, Ont. -- As gas prices hit near record highs Tuesday, an energy analyst predicted prices will top $1.47 per litre before the end of the summer.
Late in the afternoon, gas prices were $1.31 per litre throughout the region, up from $1.22 per litre a week ago.
The reason gas prices have spiked so sharply is because of an implosion in the refinery capacity in the U.S., said Roger McKnight, a senior petroleum adviser with En-Pro International in Oshawa. Four refineries shut down in Philadelphia and a company that shipped a million barrels of oil a day to the U.S. from Europe filed for bankruptcy, McKnight said.

$4.12 for regular today April first. No joke. I am wondering how much the economy can bear. It seems to me the high prices in 07, 08 helped to usher in economic meltdown in 08. True the market was way inflated but high Energy prices seem to always cause a corresponding crash in the economy. Early 70's recession, stagflation early 80's. Anyone think we are headed for another sell-off, or is it possible to move into heavy inflation without a corresponding flow of dollars to American consumers? How can one predict the final consequences of confluent factors such as Quantitative Easing and fuel price manipulation? I'm sure those on top know just what to expect from their machinations. If people have less money to invest due to high fuel bills, will this mean less investment money, thus dropping stocks and commodities?
The dollar could be utter shit (it is) but unless we have something better to barter with, we still must accord it value.

UPDATE 1-BP says shutting all Gulf of Mexico output
Sun Jun 24, 2012 1:55pm EDT
* Shell shuts some Gulf platforms due to Debby
* LOOP halts tanker offloadings due to storm
HOUSTON, June 24 (Reuters) - BP Plc, the largest oil producer in the Gulf of Mexico, was shutting in all of its oil and gas offshore platforms on Su nday as Tropical Storm Debby was forecast to make a sharp turn later this week into the heart of the U.S. offshore oil patch.
The Louisiana Offshore Oil Port (LOOP), the single location where the largest oil tanker ships can directly deliver crude, stopped offloading tankers on Su nday morning, as rough seas were building at its sea terminal. The LOOP continued delivers to Gulf Coast refiners from underground storage caverns onshore.
Royal Dutch Shell Plc stopped production on some of its platforms and was preparing for further shutdowns in the central, western Gulf.
Other producers were performing evacuations of workers from the Gulf on Sunday. The Gulf accounts for about 20 percent of U.S. oil production and 6 percent of natural gas output.
The forecast for Debby has changed drastically in the past few days. On Friday, as Debby was forming off Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, the storm was expected to just skirt the eastern edge of U.S.-regulated Gulf oil and natural gas production areas before heading for Florida.
By Sunday, the forecast had shifted and Debby was expected to hit southeast Louisiana by sometime Wednesday as a hurricane.
As of midday Saturday, only a fraction of the basin's output was shut in: 7.8 percent of daily oil and 8.16 percent of daily natural gas output, according to the U.S. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, which oversees oil and gas activity in the Gulf.
A new update is scheduled for early Sunday afternoon.

So now we are paying about $4.92/gal.
Prices a expected to go to $4.62/gal by weeks end or $1.20/litre. Thats for Std octane.
