They claim it can be used for crowd control?

I guess they haven't heard the old saying "what goes up, will come down"

The last place I'd want to be in the middle of an unruly crowd is locked in coffin 30 feet in the air above them.

Mick? you are to late.........in the UK the city made a deal with big chain of store that they could build a new store only if they pay for a new police station near by.

They're ..................... everywhere!!!!!!] (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=http:%2F%2Fspreadsheets.google.com%2Fpub%3Fkey%3 D0AirE3n4JnbMbdHNwaHlqbGg3VDVLN3ltdDhUMThXVnc%26hl %3Den%26output%3Dtxt%26gid%3D0%26range%3Dkml_outpu t%26time1%3D4039648&ie=UTF8&ll=36.456636,-94.570312&spn=48.729071,94.921875&z=3&source=embed)

There are 3 of them located at the little orange marker where I work. They've been there for several years.

I've always thought of them as overpriced deer stands, although....................... they have no gun ports. ;D

Cerberus --- nice name, and totally appropriate...

Cerberus (pronounced /ˈsɜrbərəs/),[1] or Kerberos, (Greek form: Κέρβερος, [ˈcerberos])[2] in Greek and Roman mythology, is a multi-headed hound (usually three-headed)[1][3][4] which guards the gates of Hades, to prevent those who have crossed the river Styx from ever escaping.

Wouldn't "shiny happy safety tower" have been a little more subtle?

"The Cerberus™ provides a fully customizable, mobile sensor tower suitable for rapid deployment wherever unmanned surveillance or communication is required. Alone, a Cerberus unit can provide the information needed for a specific region at a given time. Networked, multiple Cerberus towers form their own mesh network, communicating autonomously with each other to act as the ideal virtual fence solution. "

For some reason I was thinking these things were designed to hold actual flesh and blood police guards up there, something like a hunters blind. I was thinking how stupid is that... but now I see that it's an unmanned mobile electronic surveillance pod with cameras, lights and megaphones designed and intended to give the allusion or appearance of a guard or sniper tower. :P

This is definitely designed as psychological warfare on the consumer populace. We're so effed.

well the cars in that parking lot and the stuff in them may be less likely to be stolen :)

Maybe that's what they are for?

Well, yeah, and the cars might be safer yet if paramilitary police guards with 50mm machine gun turrets were placed on the roofs of every shopping mall. Great employment booster as well. Yippee! :)

Sometime in the past week or so, I saw an article (video?) on these towers, but with the addition of rolls of razor wire that could be quickly off-loaded to create a fenced area to herd people into. :o I'd post it, but darn if I can remember where I saw it!

But if it makes the cars safer, what's wrong with that? :)

Sorry for busting your chops, Ken. :)

Mobile Surveillance / Guard Towers coming to a town near you! (http://beforeitsnews.com/story/330/624/Mobile_Surveillance_Guard_Towers_coming_to_a_town_ near_you.html)

"As you can see these towers can be deployed in a moments notice. Think about it, with the ability to spool off barbed wire at high speeds from truck beds and these mobile guard towers that can be jacked up in a minute, the TSA and DHS could have mobile FEMA camps setup and ready for mass detention in almost a blink of an eye. With what is going on now days we do have to feel more secured......I for one am agains't a police state but in this case I do like the idea of such a tower in the parking lot...........the casino that I go to do have one of them in the center of the parking lot.

While living in CA I just to play cards at this casino closed to LA, one time when I came out of the casino and walking to my car this reallyyyyyyyyyy ugly guy came to me and asked me "Did you win any money, did you win any money?, how much did you win?", I simply pull our my whistle and blew it three time, in 30 seconds there was three security guards there.......the same in Cuba while on vacation, this three guys asked me if I could give them any money and while they were talking they were body pushing me (without touching me) towards a dark spot, I did the same with the whistle and almost right way there were about five cops there.......this happened next to the hotel "El Cohiba" one of the biggest hotel in Cuba.

I suggest that everyone do as me and carry a whistle where you can reach it fast, if nothing else it will scare who ever is there.......make it a plastic whistle because the metal one will stick to your lips in cold weather.

The second guy shooting vid said the guard tower in NJ was manned by 2 guards in the tower. So it appears to have both autonimous and manual capabilities. I bet 4-5 good sized peops could tip it over. Instead of cow tipping the kids will go tower tipping, LOL

I was looking at those guard towers and as far as I can see someone could hook up the tower to a large truck and take it away hahahahahahahahahah.

Oh great, so it IS a sniper tower.

On the plus side, it'd serve the cops right to get locked in one of those on a hundred degree day in a South Florida Walmart parking lot without a/c or power.

I suspect they mean 7.62x39. I doubt it would take many hits from x54r, 30-06 or a few beefy 12 ga slugs.

The thing that stuck out to me the most is the one that had gun/rifle ports in the windows.

These are clearly and most certainly NOT designed to augment the rights of the People............
