I've been thinking about a .22 for AWHILE now. As people know, I carry everything in my diesel, don't feel like listing everything again, but this will make a nice addition if I ever have to abandon my vehicle. The beauty of it is a few things

1 - Weight 3.2 lbs
2 - Accurate
3 - Breaks down in two pieces

I sure like the Marlin 60, which is similar but has tube magazine and isn't collapsible. The Papoose should be a good one. Only minor disadvantage I can think of is the clip magazine interferes with carrying since it's located at the balance point, but no big deal.

There are trigger mods available, check on http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/

Marlin makes some of the best .22 .

You will not go wrong with this one.

Horder , the mag and tube both have strong and weak points,

With a mag, if you loose a mag and have another , easy to carry , cool.

With tube fed, if you loose the ram (spring plunger) , who carry's one?

One if have the part , keep on keeping on, the other , reduced to single shot!

Just saying!

Horder , the mag and tube both have strong and weak points, One Point well taken. I had a Marlin bolt .22 with the clip and didn't like it. The tube fed 60 has perfect balance.

I've had a Ruger 10/22 and didn't like it because it balanced poorly and had a fat stock. Although Rugers are very reliable, Marlins are better, IMO.

I never heard of that one before, had to look it up. I guess the stock protects the tube magazine, good idea.

Ive got a marlin model 790 and love it unconditionaly! One of the best .22's I've ever shot. The only downside is finding mags for it, they arent cheap and only a few places have em.

My next .22 will be a model 60, which is indentical to the 790 except it has the built in tube mag. the papoose uses the same reciever and internals as the 60 and 790 (same mags too I think). A great way to go!

Old gun, but still a good one, not sure if still made, and yes mostly the stock does.
But the plunger can if not careful can be lost. On mine , wear and tear, but still as accurate
as it was out of the box. This one is probably older than most reading this post!

It will probably be some time now, but I have been planning on getting the Kel Tec SU 22 as my next .22, same mags as the PLR, lifetime warranty on the gun, also uses the same mags as the AR-15 .22 conversion so they are more plentiful than good 10/22 mags in my experience.

I bought a brand new Model 60 because i wanted a stainless one, but the older ones are made better.

I put "Tech Sights" peep sights on mine and love them. I'm old and vision is really too poor for iron sights, but this setup is fun and easy. I can't hit much with AR15 aperture sights but I'm pretty good with this.

Eh, the marlin stock sights suck anyways. I scoped my 790 out pretty quick after using the stock irons at an appleseed weekend with great frustration. They came with the windage off by about 9 inches to the right to boot and there is no windage adjustment on them. I had to bend the rear sight leaf over.

Those tech sights are nice and I've heard nothing but praise. So much so I considered getting them for my Ak, even though the AK ones are pretty ugly. Ive seen some shooters with them on their SKS and they were shooting expert scores (appleseed rifleman) which is very impressive indeed. Same goes for marlines and 10/22's

I considered getting them for my AkThe Marlin 60 tech sights have a sight radius of 23", a small front pin and a small aperture. That must be why I can shoot them well but can't shoot the AR very accurately. Sight radius makes a difference.
I wasn't too impressed with the way the AK tech Sights mount to the AK. I considered them for my AK but decided to keep the krappy stock sights.

One thing I like about the tube magazine on the marlin is that you can reload while you're running, and you can reload without being empty. I know this is an old argument though.

Ive seen em mounted (though didnt shoot with em) on the AK and its pretty solid. It doesnt seem like it, but TechSights claims on them seem to be, from all field reports, very accurate. They are just ugly as sin.

Sight radius is everything. And tech sights nearly double the sight radius of almost every gun they are on. However, I may just break down and get the red dot sight and scout mount it because my eyes suck and speedy target aquisition is rather important. Primary Arms has some decent Micro Dots for pretty low price that I've heard nothing but good things about.

I think really I just need to get another gun then i can tech sight one and red dot the other! ;D

I can do both of those things with a detatchable magazine as well. Although on the last point, if you mean you can top off your mag without having to remove it from the gun, then yes, that is a bonus. But you cant FEED from the mag when you pull out the follower.

The thing I really like about it is tht you dont have detatchable mags to find and lose. The mag is always with the gun so if you're out plinking or its the end of the world, you've only got one mage to worry about and its attached. And of course theres always speed tubes to refeed the tube mag, and with enough practice, I've seen guys do it pretty quick.

Makes sense if you're talking about a Marlin 30-30 lever rifle.

O.K

If running and with a tube fed mag,

you can not shoot, with any reliability you need the spring to feed the cartridges (sp) reliably. Plus the need to pull the tube ram (spring assy) out will dam near double the length of the gun,
try doing that and run at the same time! And if you pull out just a tad more, the spring feeder will come out , and then what? Tube fed rifles , good on the line. but not on the run.

Prove me wrong and you still will be wrong> hehehh. You will not prove me wrong.

Mag fed rifles, you can run and still feed a mag and swap to the rifle, not easy, but it could and has been done

Q.E.D!

C.

With a detachable mag, you can run and reload a spare mag, and still shoot if the mag in the rifle is not empty.

have had a Marlin Md 60 for years and is nothing but reliabel, bought the Md 99 first, took it back the next day, had consistent trouble with feeding problems from the mag...the tube fed Md 60 is great, I have 18 shots of .22 LR without reloading ;D
