I don't know if you guys remember that about two months I posted about placing a painters clear plastic between my living room and the rest of the house because I spend 85% of my time in the living room, it also takes care of the bathroom...........AND IT WORKS GREATTTTTTTTT........temperature outside could 35 and in the other side of the curtain it would be 45 and in the living room 64-59 degrees, my "Toyo" heather is now working less so that I know that I am saving money..........when I go to bed I lower the temperature in the heather down to 57 degrees.

Never mind the esthetics of plastic in your house ;D
I crank up my wood stove in the basement and keep my whole house at around 80 degrees, even with a few windows open for fresh air. My kids run around with their shirts off... :P

I have about three cords of wood........but for emergency only........my kerosine should last me for about four years........I hate to have to keep an eye on the stove all the time.

I really don't like a cold house, so if my wood is wet, I will fire off the generator and run the propane furnace.
I don't like to be cold!
Edit; I have the generator running right now, forgot to cover the wood again ! :D

It got so hot in my house from burning Black Locust I had to open the slider and bay window on a 8 degree day. Neighbors and people going by were giving the most weird looks.

Zap, do you need some care packages of tarp? Or a shed built?
Even here in MN, I know enough to keep my wood high & dry!!

As I've gotten older I absolutely despise a cold home. A home should be warm and inviting, a relaxing refuge from a cold and inhospitable world. That said, I used to work outdoors all winter long doing carpentry. When I'd come home at night my wife would have the woodstove cookin' and the house around 75 to 80 degrees and I'd get tired and fall asleep on the couch from the heat.
I have a drafty old farm house but I've got a big outdoor wood-fired boiler now.

well, your intermediate answer for that is to have a 'covered' spot of some sort. A porch, a shed, et al. Then make sure the covered spot is covered. And keep it stocked. Then you can worry less about the main stack.

Yes it is!
It burns longer (air vents damn near closed), hotter than Oak and splits as easy as pine except its a hard wood..............really hard!
I dont even take the log splitter anymore.................just a mull!
Man that stuff splits so nice and easy.

Zap has a lot on her plate. and dry wood is very low on her list, I rib her because we have talked many times, about wood and fire starting.
Ponce I would bet you she probably run rings around you when it comes to intelligence or at least with in her area of expertise.
What I posted was a genital (sp?) ribbing, to her, and she knows it! :lol
but I will defend her because I understand her, one hell of a woman! That I have
never and will never meet!

sorry, I don't even know what that means. It just popped into my head as a 'handyman'/helper type person. Someone to help out with necessary tasks.
No offense meant to anyone.

O.K. back to the OP,
Ponce, you've obviously been successful, and have invested wisely. Don't be such a miser that you limit your last years of enjoyment out of life.
I don't wish to see your pipes freeze or to hear AgNut's report of your passing in the cold of winter due to your cheapness to heat your home.
P.S. Get a new cat. Their escapades will ensure your continued curiosity & perhaps heating of your place. Plus, you need the company.
Regards,
MNeagle

To me is not a matter of money but to test myself in case it does happens in the future..........I have about five different ways to heat my home and the last one is a tent in my living room with a candle in the inside, but of course I always have my artic clothing and my Micky Mouse boots...........besides, cold weather keeps your skin nice and tight hahahahaahahhaah and also more healthy.
By the way, bugs keeps on biting me in bed..........so.........I got a blow torch and went over my whole bed then turned the matress over and did the same thing............you have to go fast as to not burn the bed.

Combined w/ your recent stroke, I don't trust you for a minute with any open flames Ponce.
Don't kill yourself w/ stupidity. You'll burn your toilet paper up!

Being cold also makes your heart work harder and as MN said with your recent incident you don't need it working too hard. You are hard headed, well take heed MR. ;) you need to stay away from extremes either way hot or cold.

Don't worry about me, when I get to old to take care of myself I know what to do........besides, the way that silver is going up I can have a nurse and a helper take care of me 24/7.........by the rumors that I keep on hearing it looks like I won't have to worry about getting old, I know that I will have many "visitors" WTSHTF and as a nice guy that I am I will have a small present for all of them.
Each year that you celebrate is another burden around your neck, no birthday = no burden.........like I said before "People are so worried about dying that they don't enjoy life".........so, DON'T WORRY, BE HAPPY.

We do the same thing.
I have two Vermont Castings Defiant wood stoves. One upstairs, one down. It can be challenging to have the house comfortable for everyone, some like it cool, others way too warm, but opening the doors and windows is effective.

Interesting that what gets cold are my feet and hands, the rest of the body only feels a tingling feeling but not cold per se.......by the way.........I am not a complet idiot, I think..........I do wear a lot of war clothing and always wear something on my head................doing what I am doing now will make me a better "survivalist" for what is to come, one of the reasons is that by doing what I am doing I discover something else that I must or should do.
