Boehner moved to tears as he moves to speakership

(AP) – 1 hour ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — The chin started trembling partway down the center aisle as the applause rose to a roar. John Boehner, the emotional Ohioan about to become the House's new speaker, took his time, shaking hands with colleagues and their children on his way to the rostrum. At its foot, the hankie came out.

"It's still just me," he told the House after departing Speaker Nancy Pelosi, dry-eyed, handed Boehner his outsized "gavel of choice."

It is known to bug Boehner that he can't keep it together at big moments, but apparently it runs in the family. At the moment Pelosi transferred power to her successor, at least six hankies had been deployed by Boehner's proudly weeping family members watching from the gallery overhead.

Yet another "reality reversal".

It's the American people who should be crying... wailing in mourning for the loss of their country and their freedoms! :-\

Washington wouldn't be crying. He'd be kicking some ass.

The country is being torn apart by foreign bankers and instead of facing it like a man, Drama-boy Boehner, acts like a 16 year old girl getting coronated as Prom Queen instead of Speaker of the House. Disgusting!

I admit, it is kind of hilarious.
I have a similar problem though, I guess I've got a lot of built up or repressed emotion.

Thank you for the punctuation correction, I need to get that apostrophe in muscle memory.

Let the dude cry, from briefly looking at his history he will be heart attacked or suicided soon enough.

I can't believe we have lived through the reign of Piglosi this long.

Now we need James Trafficant up in some high position (with a better rug).

Fucking man up a few levels, grow a pair of testicles and SHOW SOME GODDAMMED LEADERSHIP!!!!!1

I don't want a crying man representing me. Like Phoenix used to say around here, I have no representation in this government. I'm sorry but a crying sissy of a man is not what will fix things around here.

I'm afraid the only hope we the people have is that is when they perform the parlor trick of reading the Constitution on the house floor tomorrow they choke on the words and fall over dead.

Other then that, it will be business as usual raping and pillaging America hauling the loot back to the bank vaults

i don't care how much he cries - as long as he follows through on his pledge to stop Obama-care and the 2 tax laws associated with it.

let the tears flow, Boehner !

maybe he cries because of his name ?

if his daughter marries someone from the Schmuck family and hyphenates her last name = Boehner-Schmuck !? oh vey !

The thing that bothers me about Beaner is that he is spineless. We will waffle wherever he thinks he will be liked the most... or if somebody big pushes the little wimp around, he will fold.

We need a courageous warrior- crying or not- who will fight for principles and not shift into compromise mode in a second.

Sold what was left of his soul to Satan (some call them bankers) and he is suffering from the pain that will come when he takes the gavel. I doubt he cries anymore because you need a little bit of soul to care.

LBJ cried when he took office.

of course, that was right after the assassination of JFK. LBJ was found sitting in the bathroom of Air Force One crying, and talking about "those motherf*ckers are going to kill us all". Speaking of Israel and the other forces that had it in for JFK.

LBJ then sort of sobered up and took the the oath without crying.

Just because a man cries doesn't mean he is weak!

Just because a man doesn't cry does not make him strong!

I prefer people who are in touch with their emotions than people that are not.

I agree with mick silver that he probably knows how FVCKED we really are... He has knowledge of the impending shit storm of economic woes headed for this country... and I believe he is sincerely saddened by what we have let happen to our nation. He comes from humble beginnings growing up in a lower middle class family. He was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth.

So all of you weak minded people that protest when another cries... BOO HOO!!! Get over it!

Just because a man cries doesn't mean he is weak!

Just because a man doesn't cry does not make him strong! A man crying at the death of a loved one is one thing-- or the death of your country for that matter.

What's going on with Beck, Boehner etc. is oranged faced, faked tanned, make-up wearing show props, who prepare what they will say and do days in advanced and break down like a bunch of freaking prom queens for the cameras.

Look at that poser's face again. Does that look like the face of a man who will bring back our sovereignity? No, it looks like a clown overwhelmed that he gets to play with a cool gavel.

One more thing about the soldier crying in CR's post. I would lay odds 100 to 1 that those tears were shed AFTER the battle. However, BEFORE a battle, there should be fire, not tears, in the eyes.

As to Jesus' photo, Is he weeping for the lost souls or is he overwhelmed at being nominated as a puppet for the bankers?

John Wayne didn't exist. He was just an actor who Marion Morrison pretended to be. ;) But he was the image many throughout the world had of American men.

Boehner seems to be the new face for us...

When Andrew Jackson stood up to the bankers, vetoed the renewal of the Second Bank of the United States, was censured by the Senate, faced death threats and survived two assassination attempts, did he cry? No, he resolutely stood up and acted like a man. We need leaders, not crybabies.

i have low expectations.

if Boehner accomplishes 2 things - the revocation of the Obamacare tax laws - i will consider his speakership to be a HUGE success.

and it's hard to tell if he will be successful although there's another election in 2012.

i hate to throw my lot in with the Republicans that talk about attacking Iran but, like i said, my expectations are low - AND the Democrats haven't exactly stopped the war themselves.

My low expectations will also be exceeded by just the repeal of the $600 reporting requirement on businesses...the whole Obamacare is a tax law, enforced by 27000 new IRS agents.

i basically agree, since that's coming up in 2012 ... and the other law is set for 2016.
