The rules of this thread follow.

1. Anyone who breaks the rules will be considered an instant smite target.
2. Enter a a new "Subject" that is the next alphabetical progression.... for example: Cello is up. Yours must start with "D".
3. Post something wise, witty & charming that starts with that letter (D for example).
4. When the last post was "Z....", the next subject must begin with "A".
5. If someone fails to follow the rules and elects self to be a moron, you can continue the rules with the following post and use the "smitee's" letter to restart the chain.
6. Give good karma to all who follow rules and if they really post something clever, give thanks.

Simple, right?
There may be double posts on the same letter. These can happen with multiple posts at once. No problem... try to keep on. No "smite" points for those.

This looks like as good a place as any to build back up my smite count, it's been falling short lately. I appreciate the opportunity.

Deepening crisis traps America's have-nots
The US is drifting from a financial crisis to a deeper and more insidious social crisis. Self-congratulation by the US authorities that they have this time avoided a repeat of the 1930s is premature.
A tale of two shoppers - Louis Vuitton has helped boost the luxury goods stock index by almost 50pc since October, yet Walmart has languished.
By Ambrose Evans-Pritchard 7:39PM GMT 09 Jan 2011

There is a telling detail in the US retail chain store data for December. Stephen Lewis from Monument Securities points out that luxury outlets saw an 8.1pc rise from a year ago, but discount stores catering to America’s poorer half rose just 1.2pc.

Tiffany’s, Nordstrom, and Saks Fifth Avenue are booming. Sales of Cadillac cars have jumped 35pc, while Porsche’s US sales are up 29pc.

Cartier and Louis Vuitton have helped boost the luxury goods stock index by almost 50pc since October. Yet Best Buy, Target, and Walmart have languished.

Such is the blighted fruit of Federal Reserve policy. The Fed no longer even denies that the purpose of its latest blast of bond purchases, or QE2, is to drive up Wall Street, perhaps because it has so signally failed to achieve its other purpose of driving down borrowing costs.

Yet surely Ben Bernanke’s `trickle down’ strategy risks corroding America’s ethic of solidarity long before it does much to help America’s poor.

Nandu-

The nandu is another name for the rhea, a flightless South American bird related to the ostrich, except that it has three toes on each foot. It is found in mountainous regions in the southern half of the continent.

That most people can't follow a simple set of instructions that state rules of participation in this thread.

When replying - one is supposed to enter a new 'Subject:' - it's a field on the reply form.

Excellence means following the directions. Notice the subject line above starts with E.

Excellent contour is the lure of a callipygian damsel. Sounds armenian, so I guess I like armenian. Thanks for the new word and for following directions NUNAEM.
