Some of the pictures I feel just don't belong but interesting.

I've been to most major American cities and Detroit is the one I am most anxious to revisit.

Don't rush on over real soon, give it 10 years.

Well, it's been less than a year since the last visit, so I think I'm prepared for what I might find. I was thinking visiting now would be a good idea because it might not be there in 10 years.

Was hoping to see something that would dispel my pre-conceptions about Detroit. But well over half of those images showed a theme of sports and automobiles. So...no change.

I suppose you missed the musical roots, the food, the sculpture and the architecture?
Or maybe you missed the part where the people who live there profess love for their city?

They seemed an afterthought to the many images of Redwings and Tigers and Chevies.

P.S. What can you tell me about Belle Isle Park, or the Detroit Riverfront?

The riverfront is pretty awesome. It is publicly available and provides lots of room and areas for public performances. Windsor Ontario is so close you feel like you could just swim on over there and I suppose you could. The park conveniences include that neato fountain towards the end of the slideshow and ample restrooms. The Joe Louis Fist and General Macomb sculptures make a nice entry into the park.
I went to Detroit for DEMF and it was a treat to walk the 5 or 6 blocks from my hotel to this park. The entire festival was held within the park and it works nicely.
I'm familiar with what Belle Isle is and where it is located but have not visited it. It is on the list of destination for my next visit.
The People Mover made for a nice scenic overview of the city. My actual destinations last visit were strictly limited to where I was willing to walk relative to my hotel.
Next time I'm going for a full week so I can actually fit in some of the harder to access locales.

Belle Isle is closed, can't get there by boat and I don't thing there is any access to the park at all. It was an island mid stream the Detroit River with a lot of cool stuff. I went there in the 60s as a kid and it was really cool, although I did get in a lot of trouble from my parents for pushing some big kid over the side of the boat (he was bruised but fine they told me). The thing I remember most was the tropical greenhouse museum with parrots and other UFO's flying and crapping freely. Try that today and the park would be sued. I don't see this park opening to the public anytime soon.

Belle Isle got pretty bad in later years. The blacks took it over and being overly rude and obnoxious in groups, drove everyone else away. Say, that happened to Detroit itself!
