Note to self....if stuck in an Ikea, keep taking a left!

God help you if a fire ever breaks out?

Love the following comments:

"Every time I go there, I gouge 3 vertical marks with my penknife in the furniture every 20 yards, so I can find my way out again,.... I got the idea from Jules vernes Journey to the center of the earth, as that's what Arne Saknussemm did. "

"HELP ME!! I have been stuck in our local Ikea store for 4 days now. On 3 occasions, I thought I had found the exit, but it turned into yet another designer bedroom. I am sick of meatballs and never wanted to come here in the first place. Also running out of bathrooms."

:lol

They do have aisles where you can cut through to the exit. But on the first or second trip it is not obvious.

Thanks for the map, it jogged my memory common to many Ikea visits. Now I'll remember its the Dinning area that has all the 'secret' shortcut openings! :)

Maybe a little more subtle, but most stores in malls are designed this way. I discovered a simple, easy solution; Don't ever step inside a mall. I'll remember not to shop at Ikea as well.

If someone uses psychological tricks to take advantage of me, they have identified themselves as my adversary.
Most people can't grasp that.

But meatballs and lingonberry juice are delicious

All for cheap-ass crap too.

disclaimer - I own some Ikea furniture.

Sometimes you can't beat the price, especially for things like wood shelves. I would rather pay Ikea with their european manufacturers than chinamart Wal-Mart.

Ikea makes rubbish stuff for the most part. Shelving units that don't interlock properly. The stuff I have from them stands up on it's own only by the grace of gravity.

As for the maze thing, it sh!t$ me to there and back although there are sometimes short cuts. They can be hard to see but they are there. As long as it doesn't send you back where you have already been it's all good.

Probably a maze for the same people that take ten minutes to cook minute rice

Yes, and all the Sunday drivers who seem to be around each Friday that I drive into the city.

Is that a real Ikea store floor plan? Because life safety codes prescribe a certain number of exits and limits the travel distance to each one. That map probably doesn't show the fire exits but if someone was in the heart of that store I wonder how long it would take them to get to an exit in an emergency?

My wife and mom keep trying to get me to go to Ikea. Its not that close and I have negative zero interest. You could divide my interest by zero in fact.

It seems the only option I have left to me is to bring my shotgun with some breaching rounds, 4 pounds of c4, 2 mre's and some paracord.

I believe it is. Apparently, from what I've read, you can follow the yellow feet on the floor to get out quicker.

I've only ever been in one once. I didn't like the fact that my freedom of movement was coerced into a forced convention. I would imagine if a lot of people had to get out of one quickly it would be very chaotic.
