Got this in my email inbox ...
The amazing $5 Gold Eagle (meaning it is the 1/10 ounce one, worth maybe $150) in an MS70 First Strike holder - only $279, or $249 if you buy 10 or more!
BU Saints - $2395 each
2010 GAE MS70 -$2495 each
4piece 2010 GAE set MS70 $4995 (1.85 ozt gold)
Thought it was interesting - they must be counting on people who are just getting into gold, meaning that its visibility is rising...

If it was from Forbes (meaning Steve Forbes, Forbes Magazine) then I would guess that they have a small following of readers. Looks to me like they are trying to screw some customers that have money.
Who is the dealer behind the coins?

I get emails from Forbes due to stuff I have signed up for ... so this must be an email blast to what, 25K people or more? I have no idea how many Forbes has on their list(s).

I believe this is exactly it. A relative on my wife's side called me to talk about investing in gold after already buying a handful of slabbed PF-70 proof ultra cameo first strike early release GAEs for somewhere around $3000 each. I asked if he had any collector interest or only cared about the metal, and he told me he doesn't care about collecting them, he's in it for the metal. I then told him he could have gotten twice as many ounces of gold for the price at apmex; I guided him to the website and he saw how much he was ripped off. Why do these people spend thousands and thousands of dollars without fully researching what they're getting?!? I don't get it!

Naivety? It might also have to due with ego. "I know what I am doing, and this is my secret stash."
