It wasn't the mods that locked the threads, they were locked by the spammer (members can lock their own threads). Continued allowance? It took us less than 20 minutes to ban the spammer and delete all the posts - if you ask me that's pretty good response time.

If one perceived the thread locking to be moderator action then one would be correct to assume the continued thread creation was being allowed.

The thread I reported had not been locked while I was viewing it so I had good reason to think the user wasn't locking the threads himself.

You know when you go to one of those terrible websites that is nothing but a bunch of keywords for a bunch of dumb crap like online prescription drugs and dating services or whatnot. well, the posts were just huge blocks of keyword dribble like that. I think BrewTech is correct that the attack was an attempt to get us delisted from Google. There couldn't be a whole lot of motivation to do that otherwise and it fits with the recent policy changes at Google.

Where are the google bots, I don't see them here.
Google spiders are invisible to normal users. An admin watching incoming connections or reviewing connection logs will see evidence of spider activity. All the spider does is crawl all of the pages not explicitly denied by the administrator caching the text for main google body to digest into search results and rankings. Pages the administrator wishes to be omitted from the spider are defined by a text file titled robots.txt. This is how google and any other search engine generates data for search results.
Google recently updated their policy to specifically delist sites that behaved as content farms. Theses pages try to pick up google adsense money by clickthroughs from the google search results. The general idea is to have a single page full of keywords that will get searched on google. As more and more people click through the search result to that page it begins to rise in the search ranks and eventually there is a great deal of traffic (read adsense money) generated despite the fact the people that arrived at that page had to back up and try again to get something useful for their search.
By bombing a legitimate site (such as GSUS) with huge swaths of otherwise meaningless and random keywords the chances are good google will interpret them as content farm pages and delist the site.

I am familiar with him from his time here, and I respected him for a long time and agreed with almost everything he said for a long time.

Then it got weird, almost like his account was hijacked and a different person was behind the keyboard. He started to downplay the hebrew hand in the conspiracy, and started pushing the pro-NeoCon "Scary Mooslims Booga Booga" viewpoint.

I was totally taken back when this happened, because I thought I had gotten to know him fairly well based on his posts here, but he suddenly seemed like a total stranger. A different person.

As far as 41 goes, I never had a problem with him, and agreed with everything he posted (usually).
