A NEW potentially fatal superbug, resistant to the most powerful antibiotics, has been discovered in hundreds of British patients, according to the Health Protection Agency.

The bacteria have spread from India and Pakistan and are now being found in hospitals here. The NDM-1 bugs are resistant to carbapenem antibiotics, which are given to patients as a last resort after all other drugs have failed.

Doctors believe the infection was brought back to Britain by travellers to the Indian sub-continent who received hospital treatment, including cosmetic surgery. So far 400 cases have been discovered.

Dr David Livermore, director of the HPA’s resistance monitoring lab, said: “This is a major public health concern. Infections have varied from mild to potentially life threatening or fatal.

Nice.

Won't be too long before it jumps the pond.

Why don't they have TSA monitors for that?

Forced to give blood samples before being allowed on a plane? I can see that happening.

One lifelong habit everyone should get into is reading about which foods boost the immune system. It's your ultimate sentient best friend, and the ultimate prep.

The NDM-1 isn't actually a bug all by itself, it is a weapon that other bacteria such as E.Coli or Salmonella have learned how to use as a defense against conventional antibiotics, that in itself is a great problem since E.Coli and Salmonella are actually pretty common today.

We make drugs to kill the bugs and the bugs are getting smarter by making new defenses against them.

All viruses eventually find a way around 'antibiotics'.

The Medical Triad foists antibiotics on us for everything, have been for decades.

I am brewing another gallon as I read this for my head cold. Haven't caught anything in many years and this one caught me from behind. Should be gone by tonight.

The solution will probably be worse than the problem.

Killer Cooties, diseases, plagues, viruses, bacterias, fungus etc aren't scary when you have
nature to provide you with herbs to get rid of them.
I have been very busy preparing concoctions for SHTF.
I might even give some classes locally to teach people how to make their own.
(as soon as I can ever find time---there's not enough hours in the day !!! )

Do you have any recipes or links? I think that would be a great thing to know!

my mother is a retired public health nurse. shes goes back from time to time to fill in for nurses who are on vacation. she says she sees many cases of TB from "immigrants" usually from africa or asia. so now you dont have to be healthy to immigrate here. these are "legal" immigrants brought in by churches.

I think they look delicious. Just add Ketchup and Mustard, or Chili and Cheese!
