The headaches just keep on coming for the Philadelphia Police Department.

Two officers were recently arrested and kicked off the job in separate incidents, authorities said yesterday.

Officer Brien Greene, 27, walked into a doughnut shop on 52nd Street near Market on Jan. 11 and became enraged at a female employee who was talking on the phone, a law-enforcement source said.

Greene allegedly threw a trash can at the woman and another employee, pulled out a gun and said, "I'll f------ shoot you," the source said.

The three-year veteran of the force, who worked in Nicetown's 39th District, was charged Thursday with aggravated assault, possessing an instrument of crime and related offenses, police said. He was suspended for 30 days with the intent to dismiss.

A doc friend of mine told me she once had to treat a NYC cop at her hospital. The dude was brought on a stretcher in a uniform, badge and a gun.
She needed to stick an IV into the dude and to her horror saw that no available vein was to be found. The dude had been shooting heroin for 30 yrs,while on the force. All the veins gone, even between the fingers, so his problem was visible and known to his entire dept.
How he did the piss tests, only God knows.

But there is an extension of this, namely the police department itself and the culture of police work. I think in this case he was legitimately shunned for being the dipshit he was - it doesn't have the same kick as a police shooting to circle the wagons when you pull your piece on a minimum-wage flunkie. But it could have been a white cop too because the omnipotent power that comes with the gun and the fraternity will cover you - if it's bad for the force, and if it's a problem everyone wants to go away, race won't matter. In fact, law enforcement is color blind if you wear a badge - one of the few examples of successful diversity I can think of.

I think this police force may have an issue. Granted the number quoted is small in comparison to the total force.


Last year, 11 police officers were arrested on charges that included murder, extortion and robbery.

Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey previously said he expected more cops to be arrested this year because of ongoing corruption investigations.
