US Mint Sells Absolute Record 6.4 Million Ounces Of Silver In January, 50% More Than Previous Highest Month

As the topic of US Mint silver sales is not new to our readers, after we first brought attention to the record January sales by the Mint, we will not dwell much on it, suffice to say that the final January tally is in. And at 6,472,000 ounces, this is nearly 50% higher than any prior month in the Mint's 26 years of published sales history. This has occurred, despite supposed profit taking in the paper silver market in January. And just today, another 50k, were sold. It seems that physical buyers continue to enjoy the dip in paper silver that is providing them with an attractive entry point.

great numbers to start off the year. Let's hope those all get stashed away and not put back on the market. don't let the manipulators shake you out. This is a long game, and those with the physical will have the strongest hand at showdown

I think much of this is for resale... DaMint hasen't offered 2011 direct buy coins to the public yet... Still... Mega sales... ;D

Found some info...

During January 2011, the United States Mint recorded their highest ever monthly sales of the American Silver Eagle. The total sales of 6,422,000 of the one ounce silver bullion coins broke the previous record set in November of last year by more than 2 million ounces.

The record breaking sales come during a month when the price of silver declined by more than 9%. It was also the same month that the US Mint first made the 2011 Silver Eagle available to authorized purchasers (AP’s). The newly dated coins were launched under the US Mint’s standard allocation, or rationing, program which limits the number of coins that each of the eleven AP’s can order.

Under typical procedures, the AP’s order the American Silver Eagles from the United States Mint based on the price of silver plus a premium of $2 per coin. The coins are then resold to other precious metals dealers, coin dealers, and the public.

On the Mint website it still says silver eagle production is limited...

--------

American Eagle Silver Uncirculated Coin

Production of United States Mint American Eagle Silver Uncirculated Coins continues to be temporarily suspended because of unprecedented demand for American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins. Until recently, all available silver bullion blanks were being allocated to the American Eagle Silver Bullion Coin Program, as the United States Mint is required by Public Law 99-61 to produce these coins “in quantities sufficient to meet public demand . . . .”

Although the demand for precious metal coins remains high, the increase in supply of planchets—coupled with a lower demand for bullion orders in August and September—allowed the United States Mint to meet public demand and shift some capacity to produce numismatic versions of the American Eagle One Ounce Silver Proof Coin.

However, because of the continued demand for American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins, 2010-dated American Eagle Silver Uncirculated Coins will not be produced.

The United States Mint will resume production of American Eagle Silver Uncirculated Coins once sufficient inventories of silver bullion blanks can be acquired to meet market demand for all three American Eagle Silver Coin products.
