While flattered that their city has been chosen to host the Democratic convention, Charlotte natives want to clear one thing up with First Lady Michelle Obama, Politico reported Thursday.
Obama, in her e-mail announcing the convention’s location, lauded Charlotte’s many charms, but stirred up some confusion when she mentioned the city’s “great barbecue.”
“We appreciate the compliments, and they’re all spot-on until that last one,” the editorial board of the Charlotte Observer newspaper wrote in a blog post titled, “Charlotte = great barbecue? Who knew?”
Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx did not seem to mind the assumption. In fact, he hopes to cater to the barbecue hopes of the normally health-oriented First Lady.
“If barbecue is what the First Lady wants, she will have all the barbecue she needs,” Foxx told Politico. “We’ll make sure of it.”
